Low Cost Vocal Mic for Studio

When working with jazz singers the mic is a good solution on a live show, it's almost as indestructable as the 57/58s, its polar pattern is nice and easy over almost the frequency range, no stress with monitoring...

If you don't scream the mic is the right thing to go for, if you ar also planning to use it on rock shows be prepared to get a lot of cymbals& hihat thru it.
This has to do withthe only thing I personally don't like, it has a peak round about 6k that tends to add some sharp edge to vocals, I usually take a 2-3 db off, depending on the bell of the channel eq...

Ok Guys, don't trash me on this, I am just trying to get you more files so you can hear them. I am making no statements about MP3's, so take it for what its worth if you even want to.

I am not sure if this is even working, and it is only a very quick demo, but try to download it as the recoding was done with a C1 on a small Mackie console with no added eq. The C1 was absolutely flat.

The Filename is "Wishing In The Wind Mp3"
Its in THE "OPEN THIS ONE" folder on the left side of the page,
highlight the file and and click on download at the top.

It's about 5 megs, encoded @ 160 kbs, so it takes a little time, but may be well worth it if you like the vocal. :D

Hey Alan, didnt work for me man (couldnt get it to download at all). You seriously need to post something good with the C1 or C3, and maybe have a good singer singing into the mic. I know you dont like mp3's, but I think you seriously need to post something good that showcases the mics, or people are just going to be sitting on the fence and not buying your mics. I dont know why you dont like mp3's? The ones I post and then play back from the net on my monitors always sound fine. I just posted a song I did with the C1 to my mp3.com site, it should show up in a few weeks and maybe I will post it here. But I am suprised that you guys don't have anything really good to post for people to hear. I love the C1 so far, but would like to hear or try out the C3.
Dan Richards, Dot, just posted a review here and over at the VSplanet on the C3, but Dot never ever post his music so we cant hear what he is talking about. So Dot, I think it is time to post something on mp3.com.

Ditto on the sm58

Ditto on the 58

P.S.--I am absolutely sick of the positive vibe of this site being totally fucking polluted by people like hixmix. I realize my post is playing into the bickering, but I hope reacting to arrogant assholes like hixmix will show him that the majority of the folks visiting the site are trying to learn something.

Posts like hixmix's don't help anyone and they hinder the intended spirit of the site.

Recording is becoming more and more of a hobby (serious, or otherwise) for more and more people. Thus, there will be an increasing number of people like us newbies with stupid questions.

If you don't like it, crawl back into your goddamn studio cave and stew in your bile until you are fucking dead!

I'm sure I'm not the only one completely sick of this sort of bullshit.

Rock On,

Stinky

Ease up, Stinky. Hixmix suffers from a common malady among highly original minds: theres not enough available stage offline bec its being taken up by a vast and connected network of unoriginals who happen know the right people. This gets very frustrating and leads to bitterness and so whenever a suffering ubermentsch encounters an untermentsch (successful or not) he cant help but be sarcastic and disdainful. I would say though that 3 out of 4 hixmix posts that I come across I say to myself "absolutely" or "... been there" or just laugh out loud, heartily. :D

BTW, I think Dot is a girl/woman. I think her name is Dorothy, at least a Dot post on prorec said she/he was.

Telefunken,
Keep hammering that "download" arrow on the site Alan posted. I got the file after some persistent clicking...

Stinky, (and others) my spin on the recent goings on here...

The irony of the whole situation is this:
YetAnotherNewbie (fictional character) cruises in, asks a question (stupid or not) about what mic they should buy for their personal studio. Various disgruntled/bored/jaded "experts" tired of the tirade of newbies and recent onslaught of the latest batch of newbies who all want the holy grail of newbieism ( a C1 ), resort to mildly flaming the newbies, telling them to "go back to their day job on Monday".

As I was driving to my day job (completely unnassociated with recording), the irony hit me...

This is HOMErecording.com not PROFESSIONALrecording.com!!

Granted, the flavor and caliber of posts here go beyond strictly home/hobby recording, and actually benefit greatly from the fact that there are actual "professionals" among us.

What does it all mean.....?!?!?!?

(repeat after me)
Lurk and Learn...Lurk and Learn...Lurk and Learn...

In case anyone is REALLY a newbie "lurk" means, stick around, be quiet, and see how things work around here.

The "learn" part is two fold:
1.) learn about recording
2.) learn about the flavor/atmosphere/ambience of this BBS and the 'regulars' here and their behavior.

I'm new here, but I've been dealing with lists/newsgroups/forums long enough to know that every list/forum has a joker or two (or more) and a flame thrower or two....

Once you begin to get a feel for the personalities of each poster, you'll begin to enjoy the humor, even if it is directed at you.

The rest of 'em are just pissed cuz you're getting something for $200 that they spent $2000 for.

For a home recording enthusiast and project studio, "Just like a Neumann" will do, but if you are a serious professional, there's nothing that will impress a client quite as much as having the "real thing".

Queue

will shut up now...

Queue, the designation of this site as "home recording" does not mean amateur hobbyists. There are professionals here and elsewhere who have done amazing work in their private studios. There are also many many engineers who have done very crappy work in well equipped traditional studios. The geographical distinction is virtually meaningless at this point.

Re: Shure Beta 87

electricbeats, thanks for your info on the Beta 87. I received mine today
and had a chance to try it out. I postioned it pointing down about nose
level to help to further smooth out the sound. It sounds better on my
voice than the Rode NT1 I sold recently, and roughly comparable to the
AKG c3000b (the akg was brighter-the Beta 87 is more "earthy"), that
I also just sold.

Hey Guys,

It does work, but it can only do one access at a time. Keep trying, the download is good. Don't give up on it.

Here it is again:
