oops. Something got wiggy. Good thing I copied my post. Here it is....

I don't expect a lot of help on this one as I have a kind of unique problem, but I'm sure there are plenty of suggestions out there:

A couple of years ago I did a CD of 11 songs, using a Roland VS-880 HD recorder for all audio. The 880 was sync'ed via midi smpte timecode with Cakewalk PA9, as I did my drums and keys in midi. Therefore, I have a companion midi file (a .wrk that will become a .cwp as soon as I open it in Sonar) for each 880 project.

What I'm trying to do is copy tracks from my VS-880 to Sonar via the s/pdif on the 880 and my Delta 1010.

When I was working on these projects initially with PA9 and a Soundblaster Live, there was never a problem, but now Sonar just stops. I don't get the Dropout sign, but I suspect there's a like problem. I slide the latency bar all the way to the right, too, but I can't get thru the song.

So I checked the HD recorder. There's a setting under midi sync where you can set it to internal clock or digital. Well, the problem I referred to above is what happens when clock is set to internal. When I set it to Digital, I retain sync, but I get pops in the audio here and there. I think it may be looking for a word clock, but the 880 is not equipped to sync to one anyway, so I can't see what help I would get there.

Any suggestions??????????

Have you emailed Cakewalk help desk with this one?
Are there any issues with the Delta on your system you're aware of?

No, I haven't tried Cakewalk support yet. But that gives me an idea because I still have my Soundblaster and maybe I can get a better midi sync with that and use the Delta for audio only.

Actually I haven't a clue. When the 880 is set to internal clock, does the transfer improve when you increase the latency in Sonar? If so, you might also try increasing the # of buffers.

Also, is there any setting in the Delta control panel that might be the cause? If I recall, there is a page in the Delta mixer for SPDIF. Maybe there's a setting that needs to be changed. I've never used the SPDIF on mine, so I'm flying blind here.

Of course, you could always look into picking up another SB Live. From some of the posts I've read here, there might be several available.

Yeah, I know. I wrote it.

As I said, I still have the SB and it seems to work better with regards to midi than the Delta (don't even ask me about the nightmare I had trying to install a USB Midisport under Win2K). The trick on this song is that the VS is the slave and the PC/Sonar is the master. All my other songs are the opposite and the VS as master seems to work best. So I might also reverse the Slave/Master.

I guess I was kinda looking for a "click under options/audio" kind of response (like "turn off the 'What-U-Hear' option"), but I have the buffer thing cranked and the latency.

I suppose I can also do thids without sync, or I could do it with the VS analog outs. It just would be nice if things worked the way they were supposed ta.

Who wants to trade a Neve mic preamp for a VS-880? Anyone??

If Anyone Cares........

I bagged midi sync between the VS-880 and Delta-1010. I'm using my SBlive for midi sync and recording audio via the 1010 s/pdif. No problems.
I'm still not ready to abandon the SBlive, although it's probably the reason the 1010 is giving me trouble.

Anyway, problem solved. Soon, all my VS projects will be moved into Sonar (2 tracks at a time via s/pdif), reworked (if need be) and archived.

Did you try the trigger and frewheel option in options/audio/
How about the settings in the Delta control panel?

If the spdif is coming from the 880 and the midi clock is coming from Sonar could there be a conflict there?

M-audio has a new beta driver out for their soundcards you may want to try.

I've got a midisport 2x2 that works fine with XP.

So you just gave up?

Well, yes and no. By using the midi conn to the SBlive rather than the 1010, I got to do exactly what I wanted, regardless of which device is midi clock master. SBlive and 1010 exist together, but they don't perform the same.

I've got a midisport 2x2 that works fine with XP.

I am getting ready to load the new M-Audio driver. I have downloaded it.

I bought a midisport for $69 and hooked it up to my DAW. I was using Win98SE at the time and it worked fine. I upgraded my OS to Win2K, which I think is the best, and the midisport got all wiggy. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, etc, etc. I couldn't get it to work right (I'm sure somehow this is MY fault ) So I returned the Midisport to GC with the reciept.
The guy there said "well it's been over 30 days, so no refund" (it was about 60 days).
I said, "I'll take an exchange."
He said, "I'd give you an exchange if you still had the box."
I said, "Get the manager and check your records for how much money I spent here this year."
The manager said "what do you want in exchange?"
I said, "Gee, I've always wanted an SM57." And that was that. An SM57 for $69.

That's funny,I save all the boxes for my gear .
I guess my logic is that if the time comes to sell or trade it off having the box and manuals makes the equipment a little more attractive.
Oh by the way I still have my midisport box!
