Losing quality through cables and hardisk machines

How much do cables affect the sound quality?

Recording to my MR-8 8 track recorder, is there any reason why the sound shouldn't be as "full" or "live" as well...whatever...maybe a aardwark soundcard going to a good computer?

A) a lot, and cheap cables don't last as long so it's just false economy all round.

b) the a/d-d/a conversion will be better quality in a decent soundcard/interface than it will be in most digital all in one recorders. Not sure what you mean by 'live' and 'full' but better converters means better sound quality.
