looking for the right mixer, help

ok I am looking for a simple 10 track mixer.

something that has 4 or 5 mic jacks and atleast 3 lin in jacks. stero or mono

I was looking at the Yamaha MG 10/2.

what is the chepest I can do it, and still make it sound good?
and what one would you recomend for that?

The Yamaha is as cheap as you want. You will find the pres very usable pre all of the people that have them. I've never heard a bad thing about the. If you do a search you'll find alot of talk about them. I personal use a Soundcraft M8 which is just a great board but a lot more money. The Yamaha's pre sound more like the Mackie. You'll be much happier with that than a Behringer or Alto. You may find one on ebay for $50.00 - $70.00.

Also consider how many simultaneous outputs you might want.
The 10/2 has just the 2 channel Mains Out. You can use the inserts and aux jacks for extra outs, but it gets kinda limiting.
If you might need more outs, have a look at the 12/4

ok, I only need 2 outs. I need one out for a monitor and 1 out that I can run into my PC.

I am gonna run all our stuff into my pc and use that for creating a demo cd.

here is the plan

4 drum mics--------\
guitar 1 line out-----| /monitor
guitar 2 line out-----|> MIXER <
Bass line out -------/ \Computer


this not going to be used for prefomanceses. belive me my band is not at the stage were we can do preformances yet. but I was just thinging in the future for recording only.

so I think that 2 out puts is all I would need.

also, are the outputs on the mixer line signals?

You might want to consider a multi input sound card, like the DElta1010lt or delta 44.
If you're going to run all that stuff onto one track, your mixing options are going to be severely limited.

On balance I'd go for the Yamaha

so you think I should go with the yamaha instaed of the berhinnger?

the only thing it, the 12 channel yamaha is like 100 more than the 12 channel berhinnger.

also, I have tried the sound cards with multiple inputs, the only problem is my motherboard has intagrated sound. sooo... If I put in a new sound card. it goes crazy and the sound stopps working. (already had that happen... twice )


also, eventually, after we get the track recorded... we will do a playback and record the vocals into another track then mix.

remember, I am looking do do this without killing the wallet anymore. this is demo quality. If I was recording a actual CD i would go to a studio...

If you install a 2nd sound card, it's a good idea to disable the onboard sound in the bios so there's no irq issues.

Check out the delta 44. They're down to $150 now, an absolute bargain. Then just get a behringer to tide you over until you can afford a better mixer

i have a yamha mixer. the 10/2 and its great. u can do to mics as 2 tracks or 4 mics as one giant track. or put the 2 mics at 2 seprate points at two separate times. if ur trying o save on money u just gotta make it up with effort and creativity. i have my mixer hooked up to a motu and my PC.
