Hi everyone, i'm looking for some ideas on new gear to get, but first let me tell you what i have.
-Laptop
- 4x10 bass cab w/ 350w amp
- Keyboard amp (single 15" 120w) with 4 channels, with one Mic input (which basically i use for a pa and for a computer speaker) and a line out with vol.
- Using Mixcraft 5 as my DAW (its simple, and i like it)
- cheapo sure mic, and 2 cond. mics (XML 990 and 991)
- few guitars (acoustic, elec., bass) a midi keyboard, a cajon box drum (highly recomended if you need a cheap perc. isnt.)
pretty much, when recording anything aside from midi
it goes
mic/isnt--> keyboard amp input (so i can hear myself sing/play) and the output --> line in on my computer to mixcraft.
(the 4x10 bass amp is rigged to the other output on the keyboard amp, so i just turn it on when i need to play some loud music
)
So, basically, i'm looking to spend up to $400 or so on some new gear. I recently picked up some XML 990 and 991 mic sets for $50 ea, so i got a super good deal on those, unfortunately, my Keyboard amp i use for a PA atm, does not have phantom power, so i can't use my new XML mics.
Ideas i've been thinking of.
- buying some type of audio interface
(whats the advantage of an AI compared to just running what i have?)
- buying a cheap $2-300 pa system set, and using the amp for mic vocals, and the 2 included monitors as a Left and Right monitor for my computer. (as opposed to my current mono set up)
- just buying one of those $20 phantom power adaptors
- buying a mixer that offers phantom power, and connecting that to my system
(i'm not a big fan of virtual sliders on a program)
- or, buying one of the cheaper options above, and getting some misc gear i could use such as a mic boomstand, 2 teir keyboard stand, mic shock mount, decent headphones, etc.
My room mate is bringing a full PA set up from his old place here, full powered PA (no idea on wattage) and i wanna say two towers with 2 15"s and tweeter. A bit too much for mainly acoustic recording in an apartment building.
Anyway, I am new to HomeRecording, so if you could post what you think i should invest in, and a brief reason why would be super helpful. I'm not looking for anything pro-level, just a college kid looking to spend some $ on his hobby. I'm about a mile away from a guitar center, but always keep an eye out for used gear.
