So traditionally I have composed music via score (I don't do keyboard midi recording) on my (now) old computer, using built in midi drivers. At first I used Anvil Studio, then when I bought my SB Live in 2001 it came with Cakewalk Express, and I used that. I was in love with the built in midi drivers for the Sound Blaster card (Still do, actually, they sound REALLY good, considering its only a consumer level midi sound bank).

Anyway, I want to be able to use my dedicated recording rig for songwriting now, but I don't have any GM modules. It doesn't have to be highest quality, as this is just for writing songs. Just something to have.

Hardware or VST works great.

Okay, thanks. So I load that into one of my VSTi slots (I only have 2), and then through that I can load a soundfont patch through each Midi channel, for 16?

Thats correct.

You can even run more than one instance of it with 16 instruments in each one.

If you just want to play live, you can even use a small VST host (I use Toybear's VST Host, a freebie that'll run any VSTi live....)

Wow, this is so....amazing!

Thank you for your help :)

(does Unison have drums? channel 10 seems to not have percussion, otherwise I'm getting something else at the moment)

(EDIT: Nevermind, found the drums)
