Hey guys, looking for a cheap preamp that is decent. Right now my equipment consists of a tascam dp-02cf and an mxl 990 condenser mic. The tascam's built in preamps just aren't cutting it, and I need a major boost in the signal for my mic. Any suggestions? I've looked at the 29.99 ART Preamp so far...

You are gonna get a bunch of replies telling you to spend a ton of money on a bunch of better preamps.

I actually use exactly that (MXL990 and a Tube MP Studio) and it's by no means the best, but it works great and I get excellent results.

If your budget is lean, it's a great place to start and you can always upgrade later on. For $30, you can't lose and the little MP works great for a Bass DI if you ever need one.

You're also gonna get a bunch of replies telling you that this question has NOTHING to do with the forum you posted it in.:laughings:

Well, let's see..I took this thread from the Studio and Display forum to the Newbies...then thought better of it and sent it to the Microphone forum:eek:..finally my bwain kicked in and it arrived at The Rack forum..I feel like I've been on a trip through Arkansas.:D

If you're looking for cheap, good quality and a major boost more than you need. The one for you is a mackie 402vlz mixer. This has a ton of power and head room. It comes has 2 of the mackie preamps, which are super good quality, probably just a bit below the super expensive boutique preamps. And you also get the 2 band mixer and other line inputs. I bought this a little while ago and I use it a ton, its one of my favorite pieces of gear.

pre amp

I just bought a M-AUDIO DMP3. The only problem is that I think that I am hooking it up wrong to my M-Box. Heres the pics. I might be using the wrong cables. Can anyone out there help me with the connecting process?

the guy a the music shop was telling me about the different cables. He said the cable with two white strips on the end is for STEREO and the ones with the single white strip is for MONO. Which cable do I use?

you run the maudio balanced outputs to the mbox line trs sockets with balanced cables (what you called stereo)

still tho, it's not the best idea in the world, because you're not bypassing the mbox preamps.

this means that the mbox gain knobs will have an effect on your signal and you are running your mic through two preamps.

also, it's better to start a new thread if your question isn't directly related/doesn't contribute.

gd luck.
