Hey Chili....or Jimmy....or anyone.....I don't get something.

What's the difference between this:

"2x 1/4” TRS LINE/GUITAR inputs"

and this:

"4x 1/4” TRS LINE inputs"

I guess my question is, what's the difference between a LINE/GUITAR input and just a LINE input?

?

Hey Rami.
The input level is switchable for those two inputs on the us1800 to accommodate instrument levels being much lower than most line level sources.

The impedance also changes to suit guitar or line source.
I doubt you want to read specs, but it's all here.

Signal straight from a guitar is usually a lot weaker than line level.
An active instrument might be better suited straight to line in. I'm not certain.

Ah ok, so I can probably plug a guitar straight into one of the GUITAR/LINE inputs (not that I would, but I guess I can), and I can plug my active bass into a LINE input.

As usual, I edited.

Yeah, guitar straight in to 9 or 10, with the switch set to guitar. As you said, you're not likely to use it.
Maybe someone else will clear up the active bass part. I have an active bass that I have to pad 20db going into an instrument input.
Seems like I should just go straight into line.

I would try either way for your bass, active pickups are kind of in between. I plug mine into a Guitar input. Either way, you're going to set level with the Trim knob to get the gain you want. Into a Line Level input and you'll have to turn up the gain a bit. Into an Instrument Input and you'll have to trim it a bit.

Hmm, I don't get how you go from audio interface to SSD's....

Yeah, sorry! I saw a problem with hated eight and thought, "keep the kit and get Win 7" THEN! If you are doing that, makes sense to keep 8 on the HDD and fit another...AAAAND! IF a new HDD, make it an SSD?

Going in for me tea now.

Dave.

This is how the world should work. It all started with Jimmy's generosity with selling Chili and me the interfaces for $100 each. Now, Chili's passing some good karma to me from Jimmy. If and when I ever need an interface to replace the US-1800 that Chili's sending me, I'll be giving it away for free. It's a beautiful thing. :)

Good thing I didn't waste my money on that Roland. Automatic input level control, LED's, etc......gimme a break. :D

Big smile. :D

On mine, I can plug a guitar/bass into the guitar/line inputs (2 of those, comes with a little switch). I use the 4 line inputs on the back for external preamps. I'm sure other stuff can go in them, but thats what I do with mine.

Ah yes, of course. external pre's on the line inputs. Didn't think of that. Makes sense.

Thanx for all the help, guys!!!!

Can't wait!. :)

(So Chili, you send it yet? :laughings: )

(How about now?)

You sound like a kid on Christmas morning! lol and awesome!

Glad the circle of life for gear is going to good use. What ever happened to my kazoo solo? :)

Hehe...I get excited about shit. Mostly in a good way, sometimes in a negative, like useless arguments on the internet. But I live 90% positive and 10% negative...I think that's better than most people. :)

I'll see what I can do about the kazoo next tune. :D

Nice! :)

By the way, the JBL's may be a good purchase if you wish to go with non powered speakers. At the worst, you can also get a sub if the low end doesn't work for ya. Or sell them and get the KRK 8's later. :)

Well, I sent the JBL guy an e-mail (there was no phone contact number). I'm hopping in the shower now. If he doesn't get back to me by the time I get out, I'm getting in my car and picking up a pair of KRK 8's. I have to go to Best Buy anyway because I want to buy a pair of speaker stands, so I might as well pick up some KRK's while I'm there, unless JBL dude gets back to me.

It's not here yet. You think something went wrong? Should I call Canada post?

Don't worry, I'm sure the truck is stuck in the snow. But he's Canadian, he'll get there. You Canadians know a thing or two about snow.

My you have no patience... Reminds me of me. :)

Apogee Symphony !/0 16x16 it is the best of breed. Second UAD Apollo great converters and UAD plugs - but for the money - you simply cannot beat Symphony. I am going to get another 16x16 card for 32 I/O.
===================================================================

I have the TASCAM US-800, which has served me well, and still does actually (Thanx Jimmy).

But, there are no new drivers available for it, and I have Windows 8. It still works with W8, but I always have to re-boot my computer every couple of hours if I'm watching Youtube videos. Funny thing is, I can record forever with it and it doesn't give me any problems. But as soon as I watch Youtube videos, it ends up giving me the blue screen of death after a few hours.

But the main reason I want a new interface is because I'm a lazy bastard and I want 10 inputs so that I don't have to un-plug and re-plug stuff.

I definitely need 10 inputs or else it's not worth changing interfaces.

I saw this Roland. Anyone know anything about this one? :

News - New 16 input audio interface from Roland

If anyone has any other suggestions, lay them on me. I have a feeling there should be some less expensive ones. That Roland is a little expensive.

Thanx.

I have the Tascam FW-1884 and I love this thing! The pres in it are clean, it has huge head room and has 18 i/o's (using 8 channels of adat). I would mos def recommend for a higher end sound at a cheap price (used).
