Gawd, I remember those things. I might even have a few laying around somewhere. Love how it says "Ideal for CD's". Last desperate attempt at staying as a viable product.
Honestly,I still think that cassette was one of the most stable mediums for the money.
Are you talking about normal cassette tapes, like the ones I used in my ghetto blaster?
Oh yeh I wasn't sure, thought maybe they were DAT or something, hard to gauge the size of things from a pic. Your experience with tapes has obviously been different to mine.Maybe I'm going to blasted for this but I kind of hated them quite a lot. They deteriorated in quality each and every playback, they weren't cheap considering they only lasted only a month or two of usage (if you were lucky). But I must be missing something major, if you say yours are perfect. Why is that, not been played often?
Well your experience was certainly different from mine. I simply wore some tapes out back in the day. I specifically remember listening to U2's Joshua Tree every night as I fell asleep for months on end. I'd have my Walkman on continuous play, so it would play both sides. And if I hadn't fallen asleep by the end of the album, I would play it again. So it got played at least once if not twice every day for months and months. I used the expression "wore it out," but that was only figurative. The cassette held up perfectly and never had an issue. I did the same thing with several other cassettes throughout my high school years.
I never had a problem with them at all. I can say the same of VHS tapes. They were extremely durable! DVDs? Not so much. I mean, if you're very careful with them, I suppose they'll last (I think), but you didn't really have to be very careful with VHS at all, and they'd last. I'm thinking specifically of the Netflix model business, where they'd send you DVDs in the mail. Thankfully, that's starting to go by the wayside a bit. We did that for a few months (now we have a Roku box, but we didn't then), and it was terrible. I would say that, literally, one in three DVDs would skip badly, if not more. That's what made me cancel the service.
Oh, and yes, good score!![]()
yeah thanks famous beagle and Ive been "stockpiling" XLII's and TDK SA's for quite a while now and expecting to use the 4 TK portastudios that I have (about 6) again!! Just pulled out my Tascam 424 and still astounded how good it functions and sounds !! Matter a fact Im gonna post some short drum solos on a big kit I built (of me) from about 8 yrs ago tracked on the 424 in (using 4 mics/4 TKS) "one pass" and then mixed down to CD. You and everyone here will be impressed here Im pretty sure !!![]()
Not sure if they can be found, but the Betamax tapes were pretty high quality and they make a very nice tape for mix down. A lot of people forget about those. I had a reel to reel that I replaced with a Betamax as there was less hiss and higher quality sound.
Just random contribution to a thread.
I look forward to checking out the drum tracks. I too think cassettes get a bad rap, and I love them. There's nothing like working with the 4-track cassette medium.![]()
Tape is best!
I have some CDR's that are about 5 years old that just simply woun't play any more.
