Not gettin' any younger
SOOOOOO, I think I have mixed it until it sounds good, but I have come to rely on the discerning ears of others in this forum. As always, your comments, crits and comps are welcomed!

My ears find the bass end a bit too dominant. It's quite smooth and not ugly, but distracts from the vocal and doesn't quite suit the style. Perhaps it's just the lower resonance in places, but you could try cutting out some bottom end on the master bus and go from there.

The acoustic(s) could use some more presence, you might be able to just raise it in the mix. The lead is a little distant feeling, maybe an easy fix by reducing the reverb/echo on it.

The snare and/or guitar work near 2:28 feels sloppy, someone's a little off there.

Overall a good recording. Very minor things can be done to seal the deal.

Thanks Pinky, appreciate the feedback. I am trying to make the acoustics just a little bigger - I find them to be a little thin. Definitely open to any suggestions on how to do that. I would hazard to guess that at 2:28 what you are hearing is the guitar - I know the drummer is tight cause he ain't real. It's the new drummer feature that comes with Logic X ;-)

You can "raise presence" by "reducing bass"...

In mixing you can add when you subtract... because it is a "mix"

Thanks Tobe. I tried that all ready. What I am looking for is a fuller sound, particularly at the beginning of the song where the acoustic is more prominent.

Reverb might help the acoustic, but I think just bringing its level in the mix up would go a long way.

Overall I like it, it has some issues where the groove sounds weird or something during the chorus, but I really like the song. Something about the words and singing sound genuine and make it a nice listen.

Thanks for the comps. It was pretty easy to write - 15 years of marriage gave me lots of material to work with...lol.

Here is the re-mastered version of the song. Thanks all for your input!

The rim shot isn't centered and it detracts from the track. I like the new vocal sound.

So I was not happy with the mix - could not get it where I wanted to go. Deleted all automation and plugs from the tracks. Purchased the waves silver plugin package. Started from scratch. Here it is....
