i know most of you may know this but for those of you who don't this is for you!
i was messing around in my studio today with drum recording and discoverd a way to get a basic but, good sounding drum track.
place the kick drum mic(beta 52) about 5-8' from the back head.(laying on a peice of foam sheet.) make sure that your muffling is good or this may sound bad on your kit. i used a aquairian super kick drum head on the back and a remo w/t muffling ring on the front. (you can pick this up at your music store for about $40.00)
the snare mic(sm57) should be about 1-2' from the head facing down at the rim.( i used a pickilo snare on this so if you have a basic snare tune the heads(top and bottom) as high as they will go. and lower the snares just a little.)
i placed the overhead mic as high as i cound get it. i placed it
right in the middle of the front of the kit.
the room mic (a cheap radio shack mic) was placed about 6" in front of the kit.(i only used the cheap raio shack mic because it was the only mic that i had left after using them on the snare, kick and overhead. i was happy with the sound it gave.)
next: eq the mics how you want them.
compress thehell out of the snare and go easy on the overhead.
and then add a nice room revurb.
i hope that this helps some of you and for those
that it don't.....well thanks for reading anyway!
