I generally keep the mic cables pretty short (6'), on the assumption that the signal from the mic to the preamp is kind of weak and vulnerable and needy of protection. But what do you say to a 20' mic cable? This would enable me to record on my balcony, where the sound is better, the crickets are louder, and the night is closer. Anybody think this would add any real amount of noise to the enterprise?

Long balanced runs of cable 50 to 100 ft are not a problem... long UNBALANCED cables are *very* prone to noise...

Don't worry...

I beleive that most cable companies test their cable with 25' lengths. 20-25' will sound as good to your ears as 6' I am sure....

Or that damn other cable though through in for free when buying SM57s. Anyone want some free cable?
