In the swamps of Jersey
Wanted to get a cool lo-fi vocal sound. Tried some EQ and some effects but just couldn't get the right sound. Cut to the chase, near my board (basement studio)I keep a baby monitor so I can give my wife a hand. Our little guy was talking away. I remember reading somewhere on HR about using a baby monitor for effect. Thought we give it a try. I had the singer sing close to the monitor and then mic the reveiver. Got just the tone we were looking for. Best mic ever under $24.95. You just don't know what will work.
The song is "So Long"

too me sounds like too much hi end on the non lo fi vocals... i hate that distorted hi end sound... wouldn't happen to be recorded on an AKG would it?

low fi sound is pretty cool, i like to duplicate a low fi sound with loads of compression and a very strict EQ (320 low cut and 8k hi cut)

Non-Lo Fi vocals were recored with a Studio Projects T3 through a Peavy VMP2 pre. All eq was recorded pretty flat. Compression with a VLA durning mix.

Try having the singer hold the open end of a large glass jar near the mic and his mouth.
Not a joke!

You reminded me. Many years ago we had a singer (when playing live) sang into a cowbell then to the mic. We used it in Aqualung. Sounded just like Ian Anderson.
