Hi guys this is a live recording of my band, Blind Summit, playing gold on the ceiling by the black keys. We needed a live recording to show people before we play a gig so I set up mics and stuff and recorded it live but properly in my "home studio". I also filmed it then put the two together.
Please comment on the quality of the recording/mix and how you feel we are as a band (this is only the second practice with the new drummer, plus our lead singer was absent).
Thanks.

P.S I don't particularly care about the quality of the video ;)

Sounds pretty good for a recording of whole band in a small room. What happened to the singer? Sounds like the guy there did fine. Just can't hear him so well.

thanks :) She is just away that's all, and both of them usually sing for us, but she doesn't play an instrument and she sings a bit more than him so I gave her the label of lead singer.

That's nice... Good to hear young 'uns playing real music.

Just the overheads on the drums? I thought the snare sounded good, but I wasn't hearing muck kick.

Thank you :)

overheads, 57 on snare and a cheap kick mic. the kick sound was quite poor though mostly due to my fault, I wanted to put a comp on the kick input and changed the ratio slightly without testing it afterwards due to the pressure of my band mates urging me to get on with it haha, serves me right really.
No mics on the toms because I needed the inputs for the guitar mic and the vocal mic, but I don't even think they were actually played come to think of it.
the keyboard and bass were direct inputs and the interface was hooked up to the marshall amp you can see in the video in which the keyboard, bass and vocals were coming out of for playing purposes.

Sounds pretty good overall.....but you're all young guys, so tell the guitar player and the bass player to get up off their asses when playing, especially if you're doing a video for other people to judge you by. :D
It's a nice up-tempo rocker tune....so show it. Work on that stage presence.

You'll have plenty of time to sit and play when you're all old-fart musicians. ;)
I'm an old-fart music, and I rarely sit and play, even when I'm just recording in the studio.

The beat drags a bit in a couple of spots....at first guitar solo and a little in a couple of the transitions, so tell the drummer to really pop it during those sections, otherwise it's solid overall.

haha I'm the guitar player! ;)
it was so cramped, wires everywhere and I didn't me or the bassist to be moving around much because I did not want anything knocked over considering it is all my gear :)
Yeah we did make a few mistakes, but it's only the second practice with that drummer so they will smoothe out a bit over time hopefully

First time i saw you. I happen to think the keyboardist/singer has a good voice. More volume on vox is the only thing i can say.
