What's in your gig bag?
Do you just run sound with provided gear, or do you provide all the gear? I don't do live sound a lot (10-12 times a year) but when I do, I provide everything--so my gig bag has it all.
So besides all the big stuff that gets set up, I have this big toolbox (we'll call that my gig bag). I like (and have) everything you listed. I also have batteries, a couple DI boxes, guitar strings, bass strings, drumsticks (yes--even when I'm not playing--I've saved their butts a couple times.) Extra iPod cable (those short out easy, no?). Adapters of every kind. SPL meter (dunno why--I just crank it up anyway.) Yellow electrical tape--that's my tag, and if something is a duplicate or close to something a band member has, I put a piece of yellow tape on mine.
I'll go look in my goodie box and post later if I've forgotten anything cool.

Yeah I supply everything. But maybe a dozen or so times a year I'll do a briefcase gig .... those are always sweet.
My tape color is red for the same reason as you.
And oh yeah you mentioned adapters, everyone known to mankind x3.
And guitar cables! Can't tell you how many times I've had a guitars come up to me just before sound check asking if I have one and boy do they look surprized when I throw one at them.
I actually had a guitarist last year ask me if I had a guitar for he had left his at home
He had to go to the local music store to purchase a $250. special to get him through the gig.

Yeah, at the RNR summer camp last July, we basically brought everything, including a spare guitar and a bass. Made a few extra bucks selling kids 9 volt batteries, wall warts, drum sticks and strings.

My gig bag contains: guitar cables, patch cables, mic cables, midi cables, various adapters [XLR-1/4, 1/4-RCA..etc] and Y-jacks, wire, 1/4 jacks, soldering iron + solder, black tape, circuit tester, multi-meter, extension cords, power cords, AC adapters, batteries, strings, picks, cowbell, caffeine tablets, Tylenol, Rolaids, nasal spray, eye drops, and cough drops.
If something screws up so badly that none of these thing can fix it, I put $20 in the jukebox and go home.

I never do a gig without an extra DI box..
Basically I'm a rolling ad for Subaru - how much will fit in there? I used to have a pickup truck with a cap and it was loaded to the gills. Then I stopped bringing subwoofers and realized that i never really needed them in the first place.. Ever since then I've been practicing the art of lighten, simplify, all that good stuff. The real trick I have is showing up two or three hours early if its a complex night and then taking my time. I did First Night in Montpelier at one of the venues all night. Six performances by three acts - 8-person band with five vocal mics doing rockabilly, trio with a single condenser mic and acoustic instruments, six person band with four vocal mics doing a full electric set, two different drum kits, every amp and instrument mic'd up and ready. Then they cycled again for a second set each. I brought the entire sound system, set it up solo, was in there at noon and out by 10 PM.
Long day though. Never forget that extra DI box.

What I hate is. I'll always include Meals and at least water for myself and who ever I have for a crew in my contracts.
Well half the time this is forgotten bout and I end up with a food by out which is fine but once your at a show it's hard to get away until it's over and at that time of night your only option is the dollar menu at Micky Ds and that ain't good.
So I guess another thing one should not forget to bring to a gig is a packed lunch or late dinner and some of your favorite beverages.
