Little gain on condensor mic--advice?

Hi all. I have an admittedly low-end home system (including a Yamaha AW16G DAW and Studio Projects B1 mic, which I just picked up), and I'm running the mic directly into the board, using its phantom power, of course. The problem: I can get little gain without cranking the G's input gain nearly all the way up.

My question: is this a normal problem, even with condensor mics, or is there some problem with my equipment? I'm expecting folks to say "buy a mic pre-amp," but I thought I'd check with you, the experts, before dropping any more change.

Thanks for any insight,

J.

Have you tried a Dynamic mic in the same input? Does it take less gain? The SP B1 is not a low outpt mic.

As long as you get the volume you need and are not getting any distortion you are probably alright.

Help please

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and I would really appreciate some help. I'm a recording rookie and I just bought a CAD E-200 mic, which I let charge for about three hours and then tested. It makes a "flutter" noise in the recording when I sing with the levels correct, etc. Could this be caused by the mic not being fully charged? Please let me know and thanks in advance for your help.
