I promised someone a few weeks ago, I would upload a song I was working on for a major motion picture, using the SP C1 mic.

The edited song is entitled: "High On You" (No, it wasn't written about the C1)!!!

You can download it at:

http://homepage.mac.com/studioprojectsc1/FileSharing1.html

If it requires a password, try: download

If you're having problems downloading either the SDII or mp3 file, holler out.

I recorded the vocals using an Avalon 737 (dbx 1086 compressor/inserts), roughly mixed on a d8b.

Wow, that sounds really great.

Did you use any eq on the vocals?

What reverb did you add?

I wish my C1 would get here, ordered it over two weeks ago from axe music. They tell me it will be in on monday, 3 weeks after I ordered it. He says its coming directly from the distributer because they were out of stock and they just got them in monday.

You have proved my point that I have been saying from the beggining. High quality professional results out of an innexpensive mic. Those high priced studios should be quaking in their boots. :D

My only comments is this; as good as that track is, and the vocalist is wonderful, if only you had used the C3 or T3...

In either case, great job, great cut...you're hired :D

Alan,

Honestly, I haven't been this excited about a product in a while. It also occurred to me that as content as I am with the C1, my next trip is purchasing and working the T3 through a similar test.

Perhaps, we can work something out? :)

Thanks for the compliments.

Garak,

No eq was used. I didn't have to. The C1 stands on its own. I'm sure there will be times when eq is necessary. The verb is a tc M*One. (Nice unit)!

That page won't let me "save as", and when I left click on the link, it tries to download within the browser. Is there any other alternative?

The track sounds really good!!!
Imagine that... :D

I think it's companies like Neumann that should be quaking. The myth that you need to spend 5 month's rent to get a good vocal sound is being smashed in a big way.
I just got 2 C1's and will be checking them out against my friends Neumann this weekend.
I'M NOT WORRIED!!!!! :D

Thanks Alan.

Eurythmic,

Are you Mac or PC based? I'm not that familiar with uploading and downloading files, but perhaps someone else could post the answer.

Sorry mate...

Maybe one of you (Just ONE, please! :) ) would email it to me, if you're on a fast connection or feeling patient?

artmanja@msu.edu.

Otherwise, maybe I'll just try again later with Netscape or something.

I'm downloading it now using IE. Right click and choose "save target as..".

Yep, got my pair of C1's a few months back and haven't found a source yet that they won't work on. I don't have to sit and wonder anymore what my stuff would sound like on a real mic.

Thanks Alan.

ok i emailed it to you eurythmic...(hope nobody else did)

Nope, no one else did. And here it comes... Thanks a lot, Exec!

Jeez, cant beleive you didnt say and no one asked already... what preamp? That could make a huge difference here. Everyone runs out to buy the C1 thinking it sounds that way through a Presonus Blue Tube when you were using a $3000 Millenia Media and they will be a little dissapointed. :)
So what is different about the C3 other than the additional patterns?

I think he said he's using an Avalon 737?? That is what it says at the top. That's a good 2 grand right? I'd still give the mic a lot of credit though...

Tubedude,

The vocals were tracked using an Avalon 737 and a dbx 1086 compressor. Using anything of lessor quality would defeat the purpose.

The C1 is a break-through. Whatever Alan did, he did right! There are other mics on the market, I'm sure other people are satisfied with, and I believe it really comes down to the individual.

Weather you like recording with a C1, C12, Neumann (any), Telefunken, Rode, well you get the picture, a quality preamp will definately make all the difference. Why buy something you'll regret. We all know the value of a great preamp. Buy why buy a crappy pre, and keep it for a year, when you can buy a great one, and keep it for life.

Damn, I missed that. My 1st mistake in life. I must be getting old or something ;)
I cant DL this at all.... just sits there with a blue bar at the bottom...

Is the 1086 the Blue series? What kind of sound do those impart? I've been trying to find a cheaper compressor that has that creamy texture like the Focusrite Reds (not that the DBX blues are cheaper) but I havent really heard of any.

to the rescue

finally a question I can answer with some authority

If you are on a PC, you can right click on the lil download arrow and choose "Save Target As" which will pop up a box an allow you to save it wherever you'd like to put it.

Haven't tried it on a mac cuz I am at work...

If I'm not mistaken, dbx only ran a few hundred 1086 preamp/comp. I was asked by dbx to record an artist and they gave me a few pieces of a new line they had just released. I'm not sure you can buy them anywhere, don't quote me, but I think they list for $1095.

If money is an issue, try looking into the RNC 1773 compressor. You'll be surprised!!!
