disclaimer: i dont work for line 6... i just think this machine is fricken sweet

I picked up the Toneport UX2 by Line 6 not too long ago, and it's been nothing but awesome... and fun! I'm new to the whole recording world, so I cant give you any technical info, but I can show you what it does. Here is a little sample compilation of different effects in the Gearbox software thats included with the UX1 and UX2. There's a whole s**t ton of preset effects, and each one of those presets, you can manipulate; more mid, less bass, drive, throw in some reverb, flange, make the room bigger, different amps, different cabs... its ENDLESS!!! you can use it with your favorite sequencing software, and record with all these cool effects to apply to both the guitar AND the vocals!

let me know what you guys think, i guess. I just felt like shouting from the rooftops!

SAMPLES:
1: Big room / hall
2: Tremlo
3: Delay/Chorus
4: Flange
5: Phase
6: Distortion
7: Delay/distortion & the ability to lay 2 tracks with different effects
8: Heavy distortion

i just got the exact same model, but i'm having some problems that are frustrating the hell outta me. First of all, shouldn't you be able to hear yourself playing through the computer speakers? i can only hear audio when i plug headphones into the tone port itself. I know you can hook up monitor speakers to the unit, but i'm pretty sure you should be able to hear yourself thru the computer speakers. Secondly, i can't figure out for the life of me how to record something! I have GearBox all set up, then i open up Ableton's Live Lite 4 and can't seem to do anything. I've tried going through the tutorials 100 times and each time it's just making me feel stupider haha. If there's any way you could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. I should also add that this is the first type of computer-based recording i've ever done.

I would be much more interested in hearing how the pre's compare to the actual hardware. In other words, how faithful are the modeled pre's to the actual thing? This is Line 6's first attempt at modeling recording pre's.

00% - Do you have your computer speakers plugged into the outputs of the TonePort or are they hooked up to the ouputs on your computer? The TonePort is essentially a sound card. It should show up as an output option under Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices. Hook your speakers up to the TonePort and set the toneport as your default audio device.

At the moment, im just using my computer speakers with a 1/4 inch adapter on it, and plugged into the headphone jack

I dont really know what the real preamps sound like, but it sounds real to me.

thanks for the info chaosscott. i've tried doing that but it's not going to work for me bc i have 7.1 surround sound for my computer speaker system and it all plugs into the subwoofer and gets divided from there. i think i'm just going to get some cheap monitor speakers for it, i just want to be able to hear myself recording without having to put on headphones each time, especially if i'm trying to lay a guitar part over drums or something.

i love it

i picked one of these up the day it came out and i'm nothing but impressed. i ran it's two channels into a motu 896 and came out with some awesome guitar, bass, and vocal tones. the neve preamp model is worth the money alone...it really warms up vocals. as far as the hardware pre's, they're a little on the noisy side, but that's expected with a unit in this price range. after adding all of the guitar model packs, you've got a nice arsenel of amps/cabs/effects to choose from. i just wish they had model packs for bass and vocals. bottom line, for the money you just can't beat this unit. it's like getting a whole studio worth of gear for 200 bucks.

sry to bring up an old thread but i was woundering if everyone with toneport uses livelite it came with. I want to use Cubease SE but i dont know if it will work.
