Hey guys,

Just thought I would pass along some info about a new thang I just bought... the LIne 6 Silver edition gearbox plugin and DI. The thing comes with a bunch of guitar amp models, bass amp models, vocal pre-amp models, and tons of effects. You can use the gearbox software as a VST plugin, or stand-alone. Line 6 is of course responsible for the "amp farm,", and this plug in setup is pretty much the same bit of kit, so I'm told For $99 at MF, I ordered one, and I'm happy to say it works lovely. Check out this song

It's a rough mix, but the bass and guitars were recorded with it. I'm digging it!

Peace!

Good stuff, man. I enjoyed the tune. My only complaint was that sometimes I couldn't understand what the vocalist was saying. And perhaps her performance wasn't "passionate" enough.

I've always thought that Line 6 had the best modelers out there. While not as good as the sound of a real tube amp, they do a very good job at what they're intended to be...a modeler.

I just bought the Gold version, should be in my mailbox tonight! I'm excited! Even if the software's crap, I think the USB DI interface is worth every penny.

Yep, I agree on all counts. Literally, she came over, and and played her guitar to a click while singing, and I built a song around it. She just left, re-taking vocals on three songs. Only 10 moe to go... :p

I personally like my Tonelab SE best, as far as what I own, and have tried. But, this Gearbox thing works as a plugin. You can literally record with nothing, while monitoring full on modeled tone. Then, you can change amps til your heart's content, sort of re-amping. It's way cool, especially for $99! This particular artist would never wonder how, or what, I used to record the guitar on her songs. She's just as happy as a pig in p@@p! And, it was virtually painless to get a great sound.

You'll like it. Like Myriad_Rocker said, it won't replace your tube amps, but it sure will fool 100% of people who aren't tone freaks!
When I listen to stuff, I try to decide if I hear anything that sounds less than "pro." I really don't on this one.

Have fun!

Sounds cool, I bought the silver edition too and have only had a chance to play with it a few times. Even with the models available its still has tons of amps, cabs, and effects especially at that price!:)

any chance at a re-upload of this? im looking for a good guitar modeler and i've heard good things.

I got the Gold And there are SOOO many amps nobody would ever use them all:D Some highlights are the Variac'd Plexi, Hiway (Hiwatt) 100, Matchless Cheiftan ,Wishbook (Sears), and many others..a lot of the super high gains sound kinda samey to me. Effects that I like- Stereo delay (ultra sweet), stereo chorus, auto wah and a couple of the synth effects are cool.
A nice addition if you are a Line 6 user.

I LOVE the Connor 50 (Cornford MG50). Makes my balls drop.

What is SO cool about the Plugin is the ability to daisy chain muliple instances in a host like Sonar. You can play through two or three completely different rigs at once in stereo or crossfade them together. With 5.1 I could mix the same track through 4 rigs.

Tube snobs take heed, modeling is here in a big way. With the cabinet emulation and convolution reverbs out there now, anything is possible. All I need to gig now is a laptop, midi pedal, and in-ears. Oh, and seven guitars.

Maybe I should look into a Variax :)
