Hello everyone

Firstly I apologise if this question is in the wrong place, as a newbie I figured it should go here but I'll happily move it if not :-)

Before we get to the problem I'll let you know my set-up:

Guitar-Line 6 UX2-Laptop-Cubase/Line 6 Podfarm

When I record a guitar line in Cubase and then try and pan it left it works like a vol control ie. full left pan=no sound at all. When it's panned central or right there is full volume. Has anyone got an idea of what the problem might be?

I've been recording for a few years but only started using the UX2 today. I never had this problem when using my old behringer mixer so I'm assuming it's a UX2/Podfarm issue.

Either that or I'm missing something unbelievably, embarrassingly obvious!

Thanks in advance for any advice

Yep, when you create that new track in cubase use a mono track not a stereo track.

Haha don't worry I am recording to a mono channel...having said that, I'm sure it's something as blatantly obvious as that and I'm preparing myself to be embarrassed!

If anyone has any other ideas please let me know :-)

Do other tracks act normally in the same project? What if you bypass Podfarm?

Or maybe your speaker/headphones cable is not connected correctly... :P

Are you using PodFarm as a plug-in or directing the sound out from it to Cubase? I had a similar problem when not using PodFarm as a plugin - need to go into the PodFarm settings and in the mixer section set the RECSEND controls accordingly. Note that if you are using a PodFarm setting with a stereo output, you will want to use a stereo track in Cubase.

Seidy: I actually went back to some old projects just now where I hadn't used ux2/podfarm and unplugged the ux2, the problem is still the same! I'm guessing this means it's a setting thats changed in Cubase which happened when I installed podfarm? I've tried running the sound out through the headphone out on my laptop into headphones and speakers as well as running it back into the UX2 (via usb) and using the headphone out on that, the problem remains every time (although it varies between left and right pan not working).

mjbphotos: When I open a project in Cubase there doesn't appear to be an option to use podfarm as a vst (it's not listed in the vst instruments list or track inserts list), so I just run podfarm in the background and make it my input in the device settings window. I'm going to have a mess around with the 'RECSEND controls' thing now...

Thanks to everyone for taking the time out to try and help, it's very much appreciated.

Then maybe something with Cubase Output connections:
Devices-VST Connections-Output

Make sure you're using a stereo bus for your main outs.

Stereo sound does work for like... music and stuff in a media player, right?

Right, it seems I've found a solution, although it's one that makes absolutely no sense!!

After TyphoidHippo mentioned about sound through media player I started looking at panning sound in that, and then at the balance on the Realtek Audio control panel. The speaker balance was central, however when I tested the sounds there was nothing coming from the left speaker. I moved the slider to the left and then back to central and suddenly I had sound from both speakers!

The reason it makes no sense is because the problem still happened when I routed the sound back into the ux2 (therefore I'm assuming bypassing the realtek audio driver in my laptop). As well as that, as I mentioned earlier, at one point the problem changed from the left to the right speaker.

I'm happy that the problem's solved but I always get annoyed when I don't understand stuff!

Thanks to everyone for your advice, if you hadn't been guiding me in the right direction I would have thrown the ux2 off a very high building a long time ago!
