Again: so many ways to 'skin a cat' as they say...

:)

I never understood that phrase...I mean, why did anyone ever want to skin a cat?

Maybe a beaver...a moose...a rabbit...but why were they skinning cats?
Must be either a Chinese or Italian saying...they eat them, so I guess they would have to skin them first.

I would guess it only an analogy to getting to the insides so that the outside/end result looks or sounds good. Cats have a nice fur. Pick another animal, I am just using what I have heard the most. lol!

Possibly it was shortened from "Polecat" as in "I'm gonna skin ya , you no good lyin polecat! " Just hillbilly enough to make sense!
 
Cat pelts were used for coats and the like in late Medieval times.

A polecat is a ferret, also a fur bearin varmint whose pelts were used for fancy folks wear.
