All you have is now
OK on my ongoing quest of one shot recordings... At least this one was done multi trak in Reaper..It is still live... zero cut n paste...I did use automation on the volume levels of both the piano and vocals cause ....well...... I got a little loud here n there..

Still working on how I am going to do this tune in the final version but I am liking where it is going.. I had posted a very much faster version of this in the cave a month or so ago when I came up with this way of doing this old Dylan classic....just quickly recorded the idea and the posted it..some actually liked it and some warned me to NEVER try singing like that again.......on that one I pretty much wasted my vocal chords for a few days really rasped...I held back this time but still got the cat in heat, howling effect....

Your expressed disdain, criticism and or props are all appreciated ..

btw mic was an sm57 into a line 6 UX8 going through the pod farm effects into an old Imac n2 reaper...Yamaha MOX8 piano straight through the UX8 to the imac...

I love the overall sound, and the way you have used your voice. You are adventurous, taking on this particular song. You've done a great job with it, even though I don't think the song is particularly suited to this treatment.

I keep wanting to hear a blues guitar riff in the background- good job.

Thanks GZ!

Appreciate the props and the perspective. Hopefully I can fine tune this sucker into a decent jam.

Thanks!

This is a sketch pad of what I want to try and do with this...I plan on passing it on to an old friend who is pretty proficient at the guitar for him to do his thing... In my head I hear Cream's "white room" type bass line with Mitch Mitchel and Jimi doing his thing...

Guess we'll see what I can make come of it....

Reminded me of Janis Joplin on Cheap Thrills, (Piece of My Heart), and yes, very good reading of the song.
Ring up Big Brotherr & the Holding Company and offer them the gig back you.

Summertime....man I loved Janis...Yeah though I wasn't shooting for Janis it definitely has a lot of Janis and Plant type stylings...not how I usually sing but it's was just what I came up with on this tune... Thanks for the props!..

Sounds good to me. I quite like it as it is without the addition of the other stuff you intend to do to it.

Great song, I recently did a alternate cover of this one myself. :thumbs up:

Thanks Mr. Clean! I couldn't remember the HR member that had done an alternative version of this tune. It is was your version that inspired me to take this tune to a different place than the original version. I really dig your alternate approach to it to!

Awesome, It's not very often I inspire people. I'm looking forward to hearing where you take this from here.

:D :thumbs up:

I think this is awesome. This treatment of the song totally works for me. Excellent job!

Thanks Cmorris! appreciate the props!...Both you and Gecko Zzed mentioned "treatment of the song" ...I'm an ancient one...are you meaning the style , way it was recorded

Used this to practice my blues scale in G on the guitar last night... worked well... I am guessing I was in the correct key... sounded ok anyway :)

Very cool! I start in C-minor and progress down to G...bridge starts in f minor up to G back n forth then up to C minor again

A cool version. Very nice singing voice. I'd say the tempo is perfect. I don't think I'd add any instruments. I don't know if I'd add anything. Perhaps some three-part harmony vocals doing "ooohs" over the chorus or something like that.

Heard lots of collateral noise on this recording. I assume it's because it's a work in progress.

Thanks TripleM! I have passed it onto my bud who plays guitar to jam on and see what he comes up with..we'll decide what to do if anything in regards to guitar.

Yes there are quite a few artifacts and a few mistakes that fortunately unlike before when I was just recording into a stereo recorder, I can now fix and clean up...What you listened to is the live take with only volume levels adjusted...I need to snip all the empty spaces on the vocals.

I don't comment on tunes in the clinic much. I'm slow to listen, and my thoughts have usually been offered up before I get there. But when I hear something that hits me like a song--not like a project to be critiqued--but just a song to be listened to, I have to speak up. Such is the case here. It was a song that captured my ear, and I just listened and enjoyed. Great job...

Thank you for your kind words White Strat ....glad it got ya!

Nice for a one-take. I thinks it works this way - sad- as well as Dylan's triumphant version. I think you might have over-EQ'ed the vocal though - it sounds like maybe you cut too much too much low end from it.
