I posted some converter ?'s a few days ago.. Thanks to all who responded.. Some cats suggested I dump my adats altogether, even though I said from the start I wasn't gonna go computer.. If anything I'd go analog.. Well, I thank those people the most.. I said aw f*ck it & & researched a bit more than I ever have on computer recording.. As stated before, I've NEVER owned a reliable computer, so it was the last thing I even wanted to think about. My adats have been faithful and outlasted several computers..
Anyway.. Long story short, I broke down & researched some possibilities & decided I might go ahead & cop the digi002 rack.
This unit has only 8 ins & outs though and I went searching for a way to get incorporate more.. Like 24.. I have some outboard stuff & a 32x8 mackie.. Anyway..
I found the obvious laylas & motus etc... Then I found a (coming soon) behringer 8 channel converter (ada8000) with 8 ins & outs & adat lightpipe i/o. I've never used optical without going to another adat..
So my question is.. & maybe Im crazy.. But, is it possible to go directly into the converter with my mics, & with the optical out go into my computer and have those tracks seperated?
& vice versa, go light pipe out of my computer & into the converter convert to 8 individual analog outs? & if so.. how would this be accoumplished with only 1 optical out on the computer or protools?
Sorry for the looOOong winded saga.. Any feedback IS APPRECIATED!
THANKS!
