One Hit Wonder
Hey guys - I have a Lexicon MX200 dual effects processor that I use in conjunction with a Mackie mixer. I run a single cable from Aux 1 Send on the Mackie, to the MX200, and dual cables back from the MX200 to Aux 1 Returns on the Mackie.

Everything has been working fine for the past year or two, but the last couple of weeks the effects (reverb) on the MX200 have been cutting in and out. It will be fine, then in the middle of a song the mix will become completely dry.

I plan on replacing the cables this week, but I'm not optimistic this is the problem. Just curious if you have any thoughts on where else the problem could be.

Interestingly, we had an older model Lexicon that we replaced with the MX200. The older model had developed the same problem - reverb cut out intermittently. On that unit we could usually clear the problem by turning one of the knobs to a new position and returning it to its original position. However, that got old pretty fast, and we eventually replaced the unit. The new unit has performed flawlessly ever since, until a couple of weeks ago.

I find it odd that two units would develop the identical problem, and I'm suspicious that something else is in play here. Your thoughts?

I had a problem on a different reverb a lot of years ago, it was used on a live PA and every now and them the reverb would cut out and then come back. I tracked it down to a dirty pot on the reverb selector switch, a bit of contact lube and all was good. I would clean the pots, the plug sockets (reverb and mixer), and then the cables.

After that there could be a bad solder joint inside the lexicon.

Cheers
Alan.

Even older.. I've used an LXP-1 (a way long time..) had the noisy/cutting out pots trick.. Had them changed out.. they started up doing about the same. (Not as bad, but back to the same routine.. turnturnturn ti'll they settle in..
Related/useful..?

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll check the pots and jack inputs as well as the cables. I'll let you know if I have any success.

Looks like the problem was in the Aux 1 Send connection on the mixer. I switched the cable to the Aux 3 Send (but left the return cables in the Aux 1 Returns) and the reverb worked fine all night long.

I don't know if it's dirt or a cracked connection. I did spray contact cleaner in the Aux 1 Send connection, but since it was an intermittent problem to begin with, and since Aux 3 was working fine, I never bothered to actually check to see if that might have fixed it. One day when I get ambitious, or when/if I need another Send, I'll look into it. In the meantime, I'm a happy camper again.

Thanks for helping me think through it.

I was thinking - dieing internal battery in the verb unit - IDK.
