hi, wanna hear a joke? man purchases a lexicon Core 32 system, with out the system, cheap.(I don't hear any laughs yet, must be a good sign) The core 32 consists of a pci card, an LDI-12T stereo interface, with tdif and all that d/a stuff and a dsub connector for an LDI-10T 8 in/out expansion interface, AND by purchasing an optional LX3 card, you then have the ability to cascade 3 LDI-10T's togeather. Sounds good so far. Man purchases (1) LDI-10T, and opts for the LX3 when he can afford it. Wow, digital multitrack at a fraction of protools. Meantime, new computer being built. Money goes for that. Vendor becomes flooded with LDI-10T's, will sell cheap.(any laughs yet) Opt to buy the LX3 first and or another option, the PC-90 FAMOUS LEXICON REVERB daughtercard. Vendor has none. SEARCH, AND SEARCH and Search and search.........
you must be howling by now. I'm not. What would you do?
A. Search out the vendor who never told you that lexicon went out of this line of business, so there is no way to expand this system with new options, so therefor you are stuck, and when you find him, cram the rest of the LDI-10T's he's offing on nieve customers, where the sun don't ....you know.
B. Do the same as him, and sell it to....people like me.
C. Sell it, but be honest, and tell the interested party that chances are as slim as a...you know what in hell, of finding an animal by the name of LX3 but it makes a good
8 in 8 out interface.
D. Go online, and start asking around for other options.(no, the trash can is not an option)
E. Tell another joke?.(do I hear a laugh...oh, that was the dog.)

Fitz,

> The core 32 consists of a pci card ... <

And that, in a nutshell, is the big problem with all proprietary systems. You have to buy special expensive hardware, as opposed to software that runs on any computer. And when the hardware doesn't gain acceptance or the company can't sell enough of them to keep it viable, you have an expensive boat anchor.

i supose everyone should just use a firewire interface then. thats enough bandwidth for 8in /8out no problem, I think its about 24in/24out that it could handle.

software only?

Hi Ethan, let me see if I understand you correctly., with software only(the core 32 was designed to work with cubase, but will work with most, and I have all except protools)you don't have this problem. Then how do you a/d the signal into the computer? It has to at least go through a soundblaster. And thats only stereo. That means I can only record 2 tracks at a time, right. Or am I missing something here?
(just dipping my toe into the "digital pool" so I'm really not used to it yet. Just bought a a Tascam TDM-D1000 on ebay that was advertised as mint. When I received it, it was destroyed. So I'm really kind of gunshy about digital right now. The only salvation is I already have a complete analog system(oops dare I say that word here?)But I love analog and what experience I've had wirh digital and reading all the problems with getting this to work with that if that is config like this, if my big toe is in my mouth and my....AAGGGRRRR!!!! I JUST WANT TO HAVE SOME FUN RECORDING!! and not spend a lifetime punching buttons on the damn screen, and looking thru this menu to go here, and on and on.......
fitz:rolleyes:

They should have renamed it the L(ID-10T) after they went out of business. I'd try to sell it on eBay and move on. :D

usb-vs-firewire

Hi, can you explain the difference between usb and firewire. And I thought firewire is for mac? Thanks
fitz

Firewire comes standard on Macs, you can get firewire cards for PCs or laptops. Its just another digital transfer protocol with high bandwidth. Its quick enough to allow for rackmount HDs to be run via a firewire connection from computers.

Re: software only?

Fitz,

> Then how do you a/d the signal into the computer? <

I may have answered the wrong question. I thought the Lexicon hardware you described is a proprietary system like Digi's ProTools, Creamware's Scope, or those new UA "powered plug-ins," where the software works only with the supplied hardware. If the Lexicon is just another audio card that can be used by any audio program, my comment does not apply.

I wouldn't

Howdy, boy I asked this stuff a long time ago. But as far as I'm concerned, the people that are selling this stuff are crooks. Go ahead and email them and see what they say. They know that lexicon doen't support this even tho they made it. (Pisses me off when manufacturers do this. They get the money and run)Thats why sellers quote "lexicons" hype for this unit. Not only that, in order to get 32 channels or tracks or whatever they call it., you have to have another card called an LX3 or L3x whatever it is called, anyway, they don't exist. At least as far as I'm concerned. I've spent so much time looking for this card I could have built a house. You can't connect the units togeather without this. I tried to contact lexicon and they won't even answer 10 emails to them. I'll never buy anything lexicon ever again. Corporations like this can kiss my u know what. And as far as this unit is concerned, I never even hooked it up. I went on to other things and chalked it up to me being stupid for buying without getting info first. But if I ever caught up with the guy that sold it to me, OR the CEO of Lexicon, I'd shove it where they wouldn't like it. And then twist it sideways. They are in the same league as the CEO of Enron etc. Cheats, crooks, liers, theives are just a few of the explicitives I'd like to brand on thier F_____g forehead. Excuse me, but I work hard for my bucks, and when I get cheated, I'm no newbe when it comes to getting even.
My 2cents

Go go to Musician's "Friend(?)" or Guitar Center's online shopping pages. Whatever computer music hardware that they are showing as being on "Super Giant Blowout Whiz-Bang Last Chance Only This Week MEGA sale", is the exact equipment you don't ever want to buy. I think they still have a bunch of Lexicon Core 2's that they made the mistake of buying a couple of years ago. Would'nt surprise me if the price of those is down to $49.95.
Wadda turd!
