Anyone here using this vs. the MBox? I researched the Mbox but heard it wasn't compatible with my new PC (HP Media Center PC, 3.2 ghz, 1 gig sdram, 250 gig hd, Windows XP Media Edition)

I don't know about the lexicon - but I've certainly never had a great experience with HP computers. Wouldn't be my 1st (2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th, etc...) choice for recording audio.

I have an HP laptop, and it works quite well. For desktops, though, I prefer building out or having one built. You have more control over what you get with a desktop than a laptop.

i would forget about usb based systems and get stuff with pci cards cuz they have zero latency and dont hog ur cpu and they tend to have better converters

My HP has been like gold...touch wood....and their customer support is fantastic.

I am also interested in the Omega....i was going to get the UNIVERSAL AUDIO UAD-1 DSP CHIP...but i was under the impression the Omega was a similer thing ...but worked as an audio interface as well....does it not help your CPU power out?

Mbox comes with Focusrite preamps (those are good in case you didn't know) and Mbox also has zero latency...yes a USB unit can have zero latency. Pro Tools is also an amazing editing tool. As far as your computer...who told you that you couldn't run Mbox on it and why?

I was in Border's the other day and picked up a Pro Tools book to browse. It was in there.

ohhhhh, it's probably because of your operating system. you have media edition which is pretty much just geared to showing pictures, vidoes, and playing music. however, i can't seem to find proof to back it up on the digidesign site. But that's my guess. I think you can easily get around this just by buying another operating system (XP home or pro) and installing that on your computer. You're also going to want another hard drive strictly for audio, because pro tools (and other programs as well) function better on a hard drive designated for audio only. Anyway...look here to make sure you have all the requirements for the mbox:
http://www.digidesign.com/compato/xp/mbox/
And when in doubt call them up (call, not e-mail...they don't ever respond to it).

Pro Tools only runs on Win XP with Service Pack 1.

(Or OSX)

About MBOX I could only say that has focusrite preamps and they sound quite good; I don't know nothing about the quality off the converters...
I know by a fidate customers that the lexicon interface has VERY big problems with the windows drivers. Take a look to the M-Audio stuff

definetly go with the mbox i have one and love it... never had a problem with it and ive produced some very good recordings with it... heres a band i just recently recorded to record the drums i hooked up my behringer mixer and just used the preamp on it so i could plug in 4 mics... i am very pleased with the results i get liek this, but i plan to get the digi002 very soon

hey ntnguitarist....http://protoolsle.proboards32.com
come check us out if you're a pro tools fan. we're trying to get some more pro tools lovers of this site to give/get advice there.

i checked out your recording....do you hate the right speaker?? I got a TON of sound coming out of the left. If the right channel has pissed you off for some reason, tell me and i'll understand. :D :p
i could definitely use more drums and more wider spread. AND more guitar. I think more of the instruments would help blend the voices in. however you did blend the voices together well with eachother....okay, my two cents worth.

oh, thats odd... i like both speakers i just gave each guitarist his own side but i didnt pan it all the way... and i left the drums dead center... any suggestions on what i should have done... cuz im here to learn too ive only been recording since june but i have obviously tons of room for improvement on my techinuqes, thanks...

did you just update the file?? 'cause i listened to it again and the right channel sounds better. a suggestion if you say you leave the drums dead center...try panning them out in stereo. they are a stereo instrument afterall. give us a feel of location with the drums. For example, snare and high hat off to the side, toms spaced out and overheads panned to their respective sides.

nope didnt update it, i already deleted the pro tools session files i just use it as a sample for my website, maybe when u listened to it u were sitting more towards the right side lol... yeah ill try that with my next project...
