Wow Chris!
That was great! You better put music to that, or I will! JK
This was the first thing I read on this thread which kinda stinks, cause anything I could come up with after that would really suck!;)
Great job! Great Folw! Great imagery!

Escpecially

A cathedral of red cedar trees
A stream bank for a balcony

Rock on Brother.

Wow, thanks guys. I still haven't gotten back to reading the rest of this thread, but I wanted to say that the music for this song just poured out while I was waiting for a friend up in Seattle. Worked on the melody on the drive up, sat in the back of the jeep and worked out the chord progression and had just finished it when she rolled up.

Perfect! She also knew the fellow who's story was the inspiration for my interpretation of "Woolton Church" and the tune went over really well with her. I still have one place where I need something different in the arrangement, but I'm hoping to start recording this thing tonight. At least scratch padding it to see if my arrangement ideas work.

So, "Wow", again! This is an excellent thread and an awesome forum. :D Its like having other people around who do the same things and inspire you to do better.

Take care,
Chris

It's in iAmbic quaDrameter; btw, I cant help writing lyrics without more than one vocal part; so every second line is vocal harmony sung with the line above it.

A chorus, perhaps.
..Its turned out more like a rambling Leonard cohen fable

Ohhh, Worn down By her Woolton way
...........(Gone down On the)

In Time you Tend to Let the Pain

ReSide...

but She's the Bag gage You will Bear

was It nai-Ive expecting there
.......................(ex'ted you there)

at WOOLTON CHURCH
.....(Woolton Wom-..........-an, Be with Me toDaaay).

(* I just edited in "be with me today" which had orginally been "I have gone away" but presently I became positive that the line was actually from somewhere prominent, cant think who though)

The "ex'ted" device on the second last line is just some old lyrical licesne - only actual singing would reveal whether it works. I have a thing about exact meter, so I'll try anything!

Hey I'm even gonna post the accompanying tune on the MP3 Clinic - check it out when it gets there!

Here it's done - I had to sign up for a home page to post it on the web.

If youre thinking 'this is lame midi which sounds like it was done hastily and skimpily', youre right:) which is why im not posting it in the Clinic! I'd get kciked or something:)

The midi-vox is obviously the lyric voice from the lyrics above.

As i say Henri, its sort of like a chorus. But of course the tune will no doubt be everything you didnt think of with regards to yours:)

Oh and although its abotu time i shut up already, its very late here in Oz so i've had one of those ideas (which seem amazing now but will prove to be trite in the morning)... I think we guys, especially on the Songwriting board, should feel more freed up to post dodgy midi ditties like this, just to help others really see where your words might be going, etc, and that will espeially open up for ppl to help you more.

The thing Im saying is, why be afraid of posting something like a half hour three-track midi job - i was for a while, thinking "Theyll think this is the best thing I've produced" (hey im not saying the normal stuff is MUCH better!). But i got ver that, and happy to post this as what it is - a tune-guide to the lyrics, and its not held up to be anything more.

That said, it occurred to me while writing that paragraph that perhaps a big reason why those sort of tune-guides arent posted heaps is ppl's concern for propriety of their music - so fair enough. (I guess my thought was, 'This is so poor and cliche, who on earth would bother ripping it off'...I get the feeling that will hold true:))

Jo Jo..I dont think that anyone will listen at your "midied" music and have any negitive things to say..I will listen tonight and get back.
The thing about this thread is to see the differences in how we approch the same germ ..Everyones take is valid! And we can all learn from different trains of thought..Also to kik start some inspiration if anyone is in a rut.....

badgas

I have a song that could fit well to your lyrics early in this thread.. If I finish the song, will you care for puting down the vox?

as this thread is filled with lyrics, I thought it might be a good idea that I make this song free for anyone to use for their lyrics if there's no other music to back them up..

So. Just go ahead and use this mp3 if you like. I'd greatly appreciate to get to hear the results.

Messugah.
I thought I replied to this. Guess I just thought I did. Seems like I did. Oh well.

That's a good tune.
I just want ya to know I'm not a singer. I've never sang very much. I have this thing about being booed off the stage. Ya know.
I've downloaded the MP3 and intend to get seriously involved with it as soon as I get my studio up and running.

Now, being as I can't carry an note with my voice, I have a cousin who use to sing. I'll drag his crust over here and see I we can get something going on it.

I'll keep in touch.

Holy Shit.
I'd downloaded the instrumental yesterday.
I just checked out the thread with you, Mesh, and Emeric.

That's something.
I don't know what to say.
I'm shocked...

I'll be back in a few.

All I Can Say Is That Instrumental Is HOTTTTTTTT

Whew! Nothing like inspiration to get you staying up late twisting the night away...

I "finished" the song that came from this thread "Woolton Street." and posted it to NoWhereRadio. Right here...

http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/10/1247/singles.shtml

I'm stoked, too, because I'll be seeing the guy who's story inspired it next weekend and I'll get to see what he thinks of it.

Take care,
Chris

PS- I read through the many lyrics that were produced by this thread and
!WoW! :D

Good idea Henri.
I'll but up the original one I wrote way back when, first.
I wrote it in a few minutes, 15-25, I don't remember.

=======================
Woolton Church

Down the road in the summer time,
I walk along hoping to find.
Bits if youth and long lost dreams,
Like wading in those mountain streams.

Take me back.
Take me back.

Down the road from the old log shack,
On a stump my grampa sat.
Telling stories of his days of youth,
Then he'd sing a song about the blues.

Take me back.
Take me back. To Woolton Church.
Take me back.

(short lead solo)

Behind the magnolia, beyond the bay,
Stands a church where gramma taught me to pray.
Now covered with vines and everythin’,
I can still hear those gospel hymens.

Take me back.
To Woolton Church where my life began,
Take me back.
To Woolton Church where I played and ran.
Take me back.

(long lead solo)

Now I sit on that stump like my grampa did,
Telling stories to my great-grandkids.
The youngin’s listen to all the old news,
Then I pick up my guitar and I sing ‘em the blues.

Take me back.
To Woolton Church, where their lives began,
Take me back.
To Woolton Church, where grampa talked and sang,

(begin soft lead and fade)

Take me back.
To Woolton Church.
Take me back.

(repeat)
==================================
This is the revised lyrics.
Some things I changed, added somethings, did away with the solos, and moved stuff around a bit so it all kinda fit together.
I've been mullin' the idea of changing the name to,
Take Them Back (Woolton Church)
Mainly because the TTB is used throughout the song where as WC is used only a few times.
Besides that, I'm pretty set on how it is.
Wha'da ya think about the name change?

Where we played and ran.

========================================

I know Chris Shaeffer did Woolton Street.
I was wondering if anyone else did anything further with the lyrics they wrote. I'd like to read/listen to them.

I was thinking, we should do this again in another thread, with another topic/name/idea to help keep everyone going and writting.

Anyone gamey, besides me?

I'm game! I'm game! ::waving hand wildly::

:D This is still one of my favorite songs- both for the content it inspired and the fact that it is part of this cool place. I'd love to have another go around on another topic.

BTW- I've reposted "Woolton Street" on NoWhereRadio, so the link above still works.

This is fun stuff.

Chris

Hey Chris.
Yeah, it is fun.

I need to move over to nowhere. I want to collab with some of the guys at CC, so thats why I made that site. Not to post my MP3s on.

You have any ideas on a subject or something?

False alarm- upload no workie. :( I'll get it uploaded later.

-C

I was just over there trying to download a song from someone who posted in the clinic. NWR is down for a bit I guess. I noticed two other sites I hang around on are down too. ???

I forgot to mention, that this is by far the favorite song I've written also.
I like yours too.
