I'm not sure how I'll know. Until Gibson puts out some official information on where the production breakpoint is (if there is a clear one - there may not be), even the retailers won't know.

makes me glad i got a 2006 goddess instead of a 2007

les paul ?

for me it took a few years to find the one that spoke to me .... a black 1983 custom ...... take your time play as many as you can ..... when you find it you will know it

Well, if the plan is to save enough money to buy one, and find some way of telling my wife without getting killed, then it's its a great plan! :D

lol i guess i'm lucky. my fiancee is the one who bought me my les paul :) She's entirely supportive of my music. :)

So is my wife. And I have told her that seven guitars is not enough, so she knows that there are more coming. :)

Perhaps I should have said that, having decided how much money I'm going to spend on that LP, I will need to figure out what she gets that's worth three times that amount. :D

No, she doesn't like diamonds - she'd be easy to buy for, then, but noooooo. ;)

Just got her a new car, so that's out. :D

In situations like this it usually comes down to "How much did you say I could go out and spend?" :D

lol, make it a nice big round number :D

Les Paul under $1K?

I'll eventually get another Gibson Les Paul; currently have an Epiphone Les Paul Jr. 90, and a Gibson Les Paul Faded Double Cut. I don't really like the looks of the Gibson Les Paul Menace, so which should I go for - Gibson Les Paul Vintage Mahogany, or Gibson Les Paul Faded Special? Granted I should find a few copies of each, to try out, so how much tonal differences might I expect between the two? For now, I'll use my Ibanez JTK2 Jet King, whenever I want some solid body/two humbuckers in my musical creations. Besides, my Jet King is now a rarity, since Ibanez no longer makes 'em in tobacco sunburst.

As it is, I'm happy enough with the two Les Pauls I've already got, I'm planning to record with both of them as they came out of the box. Haven't yet found time enough to get 'em to a tech, to have Bigsby B5's and other goodies (roller bridges and locking tuners) added to 'em. I've even got a Gibson P90 for the Epiphone, but I'll have to wait to enhance the sound of it. I know some folks tend to knock Epiphone, but this is a case of "if it sounds that good out of the box, how much better can it get with a Gibson pickup?"

Zaph,

At least two of our LP's are chambered (the two Elegance) and I think the Standard LE may be as well, my son's main LP Std weighs in at 11lbs..........the thing is, they all "sing" with their own individual character and personally, I wouldn't be worrying too much about chambering, rather than focusing on finding the ones that "speak to you" when you touch them.......that's when you know you've found the right one.

Gibson did do 2 runs of chambered reissues. I believe the chambers were pretty much the same as the chambers in the cs336 and cs 356. The first run was done for The music machine in kennewick, WA and 2 other stores......I think it was Dave's and someone else......the les paul forum guys will know.......anyway, the first run of the cambered reissues were called "cloud9's" The other guitar player in my old band has one. One of my other buddies got an R4 that I believe was the lightest gibson les paul ever made. It came in at 7 pounds exactly. They do sound fantastic and were much lighter than any other les paul ever has been.

I heard they did another run for guitarsale.com/music123, but I never actually saw them.

Sounds to me like those runs were so successful that they transferred those chambers to the gibson USA models.

If you want a mid-life crisis guitar who's name will make people go "ooh" and "ahh", go ahead and overspend your money and buy a Gibson Les Paul.

If you want to buy the absolute BEST Les Paul for the money, get the Epiphone Elitist Les Paul.

I'm dead serious. I A-B'd a Gibson Les Paul Custom and a Les Paul Standard against the Elitist Les Paul Standard Plus one day at Guitar Center and the Elitist totally smoked the Gibsons! I mean, it wasn't even close! I've played vintage Les Pauls from every decade since the 60's and the Elitist was like a fricking magic guitar. Everything I played on it sounded like a million bucks. The thing just oozes with tone that will make you cream your pants. On top of that, it was MUCH prettier than the Gibson models.

Dude, I'm serious. Play an Elitist side-by-side against any Gibson Les Paul and you'll understand what I'm saying here. Get over that silly obsession with the Gibson name on the headstock, it means nothing except that you tossed out more ca$h than you needed to and got a shitty deal.

Read what other people are saying. Try one out for yourself. If someone laughs at it just hand it to them and let them play it. Then sit back and laugh at the stupid look on their face when their jaw hits the floor.

My '93 Standard sounds better than the Elitists I've played, They are nice guitars though....
