I would like you to post things that you do with experience as opposed to how people say it should be

For example, when I started out, I used to eq every track, with experience, I realized that I dont really need eq all that much, especially as plugin eqs destroy the music so much

I also dont have any sound treatment in my room. Everybody said that you have to have trteatment, but this non treated room works for me the aurelex sits unused in the box.

So please share you empirical knowledge.

A quote

I saw a quote from a well known producer. The producer is Don Was. He said that plug-ins are as seductive as a bottle of Tequila at an AA meeting.
The point is noted. When I record, I get the hotest level on the instrument possible without distortion and then simply record the sound of the instrument. I have always and will always believe that it is the preformance more than anything that makes the recording. If the level is host and the part played is strong and clean, in time, steady, then when mixing, placement of the sound will be easiest and the overall song will sound the best.

However, along those lines and in keeping with your basic question, I can say that I used to think that every part and every piece needed a ton of reverb so that the mix would sound professional. Actually, less reverb is better and, not overdoing the reverb makes the tracks sound much better.

Less is more.
