let's chain some compressors, yay!

i want to chain some compressors for a vocal track, since i find myself compressing on the way to tape and during mix down. the vocalist uses a 57 and has a very dynamic rock voice (like hetfield with a little less "hetfield") with some rasp and heaps of charachter.

the comps i would consider using are a tla fatman (coloured) and an rnc (clean).

the question is what order would you put them in and why, and how "heavily" (ratios, gain reduction etc) or lightly would you use each? I know what i think i'll do, i 'm just wanting thoughts and ideas on chaining vastly different
compressors...

I'd do the fatman first and the RNC last. Use the most compression on the Fatman and use the RNC for letting most of the fatman's character squeek through.

Squash the daylights out of the fatman.

YMMV

What I do sometimes is set the first comp with a fast attack and release at about 4/1. The second comp has a medium attack and release at about 3/1.
The first one takes the peaks and only reacts to them. The second one is the one that smooths everything out.
