Your sound is what you make it:
I play a Bruno single coil semi though a Marshall superbass & it sound great.
I also play my Epi Sheraton 2 through a Jade Clubman & it sound terrific too.
I don't own, (couldn't/can't/won't afford) a "classic" guitar so I work on getting the best sound I can from what i own.
If I had the option though I'd take the guitar for a walk to an amp shop.
Lot's of real good views and comments here. I'm soaking it up as well. The only thing I can throw into the mix (excuse the pun) is that I own 2 Les Pauls (1 is a 1970 goldtop and the other a 1988 sunburst standard) and have played them through Marshalls, Fenders, Acoustic, Peavey's, you name it. I love the original stuff, although there is plenty of new equipment that blows me away as well. The amp I use right now is a 70's Fender Quad Reverb (basically a twin with 2 more 12" speakers in the cab). I think that there is no substitute for the warm tube sounds. I've tried solid state amps and don't feel that they are warm enough in tone. Like I said, I love the original stuff that I've been playing since I started in the early 70's. Probably why I still own a Hammond B-3 with 2 Leslie 122 speakers. The bottom line, however. is how good do you feel with the sound ??? If you can satisfy your tastes, then that's all that matters in the longrun. Just an opinion. Best of luck.
