i cant seem to record with my new digital multitracker! i am confused as to how i need to lay down individual tracks and combine them to form a song. i am using a fostex vm-08 with a harddisk. each of the 8 tracks is assigned a L or R (1/L, 2/R...) so what if i want to record mono? here is a scenario..... i record guitar on track 1, without pre-panning left.... it bleeds into the next track! obnoxious. next i try recording with pre-panning left. i get track 1 laid down, and pre-pan right on track 2, it records fine but each track is on a different channel (l and r)... what am i doing wrong??!

Yo Punk Of Skalte:

I think you are over-reading your manual. Try recording tracks without any left/right twists of the dial.

I don't know your gear but I know the left/right turmoil of recording. You need to hear the sound in your cans and one ear hearing is not what you really want.

Search out this site for more information. And, don't be overwhelmed by a manual -- check with the "folks" here and they will guide you.

I don't know about your recorder, but I worked with a yamaha md a while ago, and with help of the pan controls you could decide on which track to record. I just had to set the panning controls the way I wanted them to hear for playback. I guess this goes for you as well.

So record guitar to track one using pan-->left, playback on both speakers by setting pan central.

Hope this helps
