Super, as usual.

I was listening a moderate volume...and feeling like it was lacking some guts...so I boomed it...and I was getting a large dose of harsh, digital 'essing'. Not just the vox....a mastering thing??

Swat I wus hearin'. And as you may recall, I have lousy HF hearing. If I can grok it, it's prolly way too much.

Listening on crappy laptop speakers - only thing I can comment on is highs..as there's zero bass lol. The mix sounds pretty balanced, where vocals are main focus and snare and leads balance it out with rhythm holding the fort. Nice wahs and of course love the vocals....

Another great Joey-Rocker tune. :D

On the drums, kick sounds good, the snare sounds weak. It needs to be bigger without being too much louder so it matches the kick. My lack of knowledge is evident, I know it needs some tweaking, just not sure what. :o

You may be right there with the highs, Jeff, I had an equalizer on during mastering. Do you think it lacks low end?
Thanks for the comments.:)

The snare in the first mix sounded kind of thin, Dave, so I fattened it up a little with EQ. It might have lost some bite, but I'll check it out. Thanx for listening!
:)

You have such an awesome rock voice!

The chorus back vox is great!

Are you doing all the playing on this too?

I LOVE the intro..dark and badass sounding.

Bass is where it needs to be..nice and full with surrounding arms...asserts it's low end badness throughout, yet melds in with the other guits in right places...in this case a good thing.

I'm hearing the splash? walking on the mix throughout...it's distracting to me...I don't know why, it just doesn't sound right to me...whether I listen on headphones or open space.

The player box doesn't show me any time, so I can't pinpoint anything.

I'm not sure what I am hearing when I crank it, is the same as Jeff, but it is very noticable at the end of outro...and I'm wondering, if it isn't that cymbal causing some of it?

Good overall rockin' tune and mix Joey!

aww, you're makin' me bashfull now........:o

That splash is the open hihat, I think it's too much and I put too many highs on the crashes too. I definitely have to review the cymbals.
I like the way the bass turned out, it sounds quite menacing......:D
No, didn't have any guests on this one, maybe next one.;)

Thanx for the comments, True, and glad you can chime in again! :):)

AH sounds good Joey. I used my monitors to have a listen. I did not buy the sub so I can't comment on the bass so much but I could tell you had separation between bass and kick. I like the brightness of the highs but it might be just a hair high for some people.

The highs are a little harsh. They're right on the edge. I have no problem at all with the bass, kick, or low end in general. Sounds great on my 8" monitors. This is much better than the other version you had up. My only nit is the snare. It's better than before, but there's still something funny with it. It sounds super compressed. Try to find a more natural sample with some meat behind it, or compress this one less.

Thanx Ed!
I need to have a good listen, I think I spent too much time doing it yesterday.

Hey Bro, WHO DAT?:D
Yeah, I have to cut back on the highs. Snare is actually the same one as the last mix, only EQ'd different. I might have compressed it a bit more though, so I'll have a look at it again. Thanx for the help!:)

WHO DAT! :D

Yeah it definitely sounds super compressed. Snare compression is a weird thing. You can great crack and a lot of body, but it kills the depth. It makes it sound 2 dimensional if that makes any sense. It has it's place, but maybe not in this song. I'm hearing a fat, deep Supraphonic type sound in my head for this song.

It sounds great, but I think what it is lacking is a little stereo reverb for the snare. The snare drum has a nice sound, but because it's so focused in the middle of the stereo spectrum, it almost sounds like it's not a part of the mix, as if it's not in the same space the rest of the instruments are. If you don't want to go the reverb route, maybe you can trigger a room mic sample?

I'm redoing the snare from scratch and I'm trying a very minimal amount of gated reverb. Don't want it to be too much though and I'm keeping it very short. Thanx for your comments! :)

It sounds good to me. Perhaps just a bit harsh, but not bad.

As usual, the vocals are great, but I have a problem with the effect you put on the bridge vocals.... makes them hard to understand. Maybe it's just me.... :o

I'll try to remove some of the harshness on the new mix, Eddie. The effect on the bridge is a megaphone. Thanx for listening! :)

Love the tune, man. I think the drums sound good. The kick sounds great! Snare needs more presence. Guitars are amazing... Maybe the guitars have a tad bit to much high-end on em'..... Maybe that's the "high-end" harshness people are talking about. I come to this conclusion because when I turn it way up, and there's a persistent high-end grating sound, even when drums aren't being hit. I'd put a low-end pass filter on the guitar bus, and turn it down increments of 50HZ to see if that's the problem... If so, it seems that just a little bit of high-cut on the guitars would help the high-end harshness a lot.

Take with the usual grain of salt. Listening through crappy headphones.

Great tune. Keep it crankin'!

Thanx Jason!
I'm thinking exactly the same thing about the harshness, I think that's where it's coming from too. I've cut the highs in the guitars a little now and I should have the new mix by tomorrow. Appreciate the comments! :)
