Leaving mics set up

I find that if I leave my mics set up for my drums I tend to record a lot more. Going and getting them out and plugging them in is just one more little deterrent. I have a pair of mxl604's as o/h an audix d6 on kick and a 57 on snare. I put the foam wind guards on the 604's but leave the others uncovered. Should I be covering all of them with bags or something or is it generally fine?

Unless you're burning leaves or having a campfire in your tracking room, or there's asbestos flying around, I'd say don't bother.

I think that I have taken care of the asbestos prob...but the other too might be an issue eh?? :) Thanks

I find that the biggest dampener on creativity is having to set up to record when the inspiration strikes. For that reason, my system is nearly always 'live', i.e. I have a mike or two set up all the time, all the gear is switched on, all the keyboards connected and so on.

This means that if I get an idea, all I have to do is load up Logic and get straight into it.

I accept the risks of this, the higher than necessary electricity bill, and maybe reduced life of mikes (I don't put bags or nothing over them). That's the price I pay for knowing that I can trap an idea as soon as it worms its way into my head.

My dilemna exactly....wonder what the trade off is though, do they clag out after a year or do you get a few years. My guess is that it depends on the crap in the air.
