Thanks for all the input over in the original thread. Finally finished taking it to the next level. Same rhythm and chord progression, but expanded a bit so everything is retracked. The track has some holes so there are chances to hear different parts more clearly: clean guitars, heavy rhythm guitars, etc.
I know the lead part is gonna be too "80's" or too wet for some, but when I talked about finding a tone that pushed me to play like I play, this is what I was talking about.
The drums are real recorded loops, and everything else I recorded today--all with amps and mics. No sims. No modeling. That's rare--maybe a first--for me. An interesting side note: nothing is EQ'd. Not that it couldn't stand a little here or there, but I found with all this concerted effort towards mic placement, things fell together. So no EQ on any of the tracks. Mixed it, cranked it--and here it is:
