LDC on drums; where?

So I just picked up a Soundelux u195 and I'm about to do a session in a week.

I'm looking for suggestions for using it on drums. I already have the drums pretty much covered with mxl 603s for overheads, d112 for kick, and sm57 for snare.

I'm assuming the room is going to suck, so as a room mic it probably wouldn't sound too great (but I'll still try it out, of course).


Pretty much I have it and I want to use it (new toys, new toys!). Haha. There's got to be somewhere it will fit in.

This will be for gritty 70s style rock.

This will either be going through a GR mp-2nv or an M12 pre.

i would try out in front of the kit anywhere from 1 to 10 feet out and probably about the height of the kick drum...experiment......

or use the u195 as the overhead....then take the 603's more to the front left and right of the kit......

if you know the room is gonna suck, you may wanna look into what you can do to lessen the suckiness.....that will help you out alot more than mic placement........
