when I see monitor speakers in studios, they are usually placed on their sides rather than straight up and down....why is this?

Probably for space considerations, ergonomics, etc. There's no sound advantage to laying them on their sides, in fact most monitor manuals suggest that you stand them up for best sound.

Unless they're designed to be set on their sides, like the reviled NS-10.

I figured it was that the consoles sit high enough that the monitors need to be layed down so the center of the woofers/tweeters are at ear level. IMO

:D Yeah, that's what I meant by ergonomics. Tweeter at ear level

Question....if you're using a wooden control/computer desk & lay the speaker on it side, wouldn't it increase the bass response....depending on the monitor
volume level ?
just a thought

side stands

i keep reading ear level for the tweeter.
even stands say set it up for tweeter at ear level.

yeah, and some say tilted down is better.

so ear level tilted down (aurlex pads do this $20).

if your under 12" tall it doesn't matter.

Also, when placing monitors on their sides, it's best to have the tweeters on the outside.
