Damn, i'm serious. What's their significance? Do they symbolize anything?
I'll bet it's the same reason you see NS-10s everywhere. One really awesome pro engineer had one in his studio, so then EVERYONE had to have it! :D

oh so your saying now we're gonna have threads on what Lava Lamp makes a mix better, just because some pro has one everyone will want one?

I doubt all Lava Lamps are the same?

Seriously, I don't even know what brands there are of lava lamps and which one will improve my mix?

But reading this thread I'm convinced now Pro's use them so there must be something to it..

So cool man....I've one in the attic for many years, probably a VINTAGE lava lamp from the 60's or 70's!! Its probably worth 100x's what the new crappy ones are worth, because its VINTAGE...!!!

Not to interrupt this thread but should I clean the 1970's party puke off it or leave the dried vomit on there for better RESALE value?

oh well... great thread though.. I'm off to the attic! :D

Turn on a tube amp, tube mic, tube pre, etc. at the same time you turn the lava lamp on. When the lava starts flowing, the tubes should be just about warmed up too. ;)
I do that whenever I use my V69M! Never fails! :D

Yep. Lava lamps are a great form of engineer profiling. See a lava lamp in someone's CR, and you can almost bet that the owner is someone who over-compresses their tracks, eats RMS for breakfast, and believes that the engineer who dies with the most software plugs wins. :D

yeah,Tree....
ok...makes sense now, like Lava Lamps are warmy and slowish more analogish ..yeah I get you. analog

Anyway, I found my old LL in the attic! it still works!! :)
....its getting warmer, but the putrid smell is coming from it, whooa.
smells like burnt 1970's puke alright!
Its worth it though if my mixes sound better! :D

another thing is
how the fk! do the pro's record with these Lava Lamps?
I can't hardly see anything! geez its frkn seriously dark in here.

Anyone know what wattage bulbs the pro's use?

I've got a Lava Lamp, but it's broken - is this better than having no Lava Lamp, or is it completely worthless?

Opinions please.
No, man, sock it too me, put it right next to your beatles white album, groovy??
