Just another guy, really.
You may recall...
I traded a MIJ Strat copy (not a squire, likely built in the late 80's to mid 90's) with OBL pups for a set of Texas Specials and some cash.
Turned out mid pup is dead. Other party agreed to take it back and have a friend rewind it- he said that would cost him less than buying one from eBay. Whatever- it's all good. I asked him if he was happy with the guitar, he said he was, and did not want to un-do the deal.
He was supposed to come last Friday. No sign of him. I emailed him, asking him when he is coming.
He emailed back, saying the neck is warped, the truss rod won't fix it, the tuners are bad (while also saying "it could be the strings,") and NOW he wants to un-do the deal. I am NOT liking that. The action on the guitar was a bit high, but I am not sure I am buying what he says about the neck- and I KNOW the tuners are not good.
I try to be fair. Gave him a chance to un-do the deal, at that time he didn't want to. Going price for a single mid TS seems to be about $30-35.
These TS pups are hotter than most, it seems- the bridge checks out at about 7.2K ohms, the neck about 6.5. I've already installed all three, and the mid is not giving me any sound at all. I figure I could, if I keep these pups:
1. Buy another mid from fleabay,
2. Have someone rewind this one,
3. Buy another reverse-wound mid that is not necessarly a TS,
4. Re-install the stock pup that came out of the '91 Squire Strat that the TS's went into.
I really want the mid pup to be reverse wound so I get hum cancelling in switch positions 2 and 4.
Or, I could
5. Un-do the deal. But I don't want to, anymore. I feel like he had his chance, and I am not completly buying the things he is saying, now.
Suggestions? Anybody here wanna rewind a pup for $30?
