Alrighty so I haven't had much practice recording drums, but I've read a lot of guides and thought I'd share my latest attempt.

I think it sounds fairly decent, floor toms are a bit dead though. And something about the snare is bugging me. Might have another play around with the EQ.

Comments/thoughts are welcome.

Microphones:
OH's: Pair of Naiant X-M
Snare: Naiant X-D
Bass drum: $20 Behringer
10 & 12 Racks toms: $20 Behringer
14 & 16 Floor toms: $20 Behringer

I thought it sounded pretty decent. The hi hats might be too loud in some parts. The toms do sound a little dead, but the snare sounds fine to me. I'm not sure there's any EQ problems there, try tuning it differently if you're not satisfied.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry much with EQ at this point. Use EQ in your mix to treat unwanted frequencies that slipped through placement/tuning/dampening/etc. As well as carving out sonic space for the rest of the music and the context of the song.

Put some cans on and solo your snare mic. Move it around till you find a sweet spot.
Do that with all of your mics!
Unless you've already done so, you have no idea how much the slightest placement changes can effect the sound.

Does sound pretty good though and the chops are there too.

The sound of everything is good.

It's hard to tell without other instruments playing, but I'm predicting (guessing?) that your snare is not going to cut through a mix at that volume. The bell of the ride is louder than the snare. Don't worry about EQ, they sound fine. It's the levels you that you'll probably spend more time on once you're mixing a tune with them. But I think you're going to end up bringing that snare mic up quite a bit.

Nice playing, too.

Thanks guys. I'll have a play around with tom mic placement, there's just so much low end on the floor toms I'm not capturing.

I'll record a guitar track and see how it goes.

This is fun!

It sounds pretty nice, there is a lot of room sound in it.
if you want a warmer sound with more tom low end you may experiment with different Overhead styles of placement.
How did you set up your overheads?
