Latency problem?

I'm using my drum machine (Roland R8mkII) to lay down drum tracks and am using cubase to start it. The problem is the R8 is out of time with cubase every now and then and some rolls I have are not being recorded/played properly, the notes sound choked. Is this a latency issue or something else?

hmm

so you are midied up to cubase from the drum machine? latency is one of your problems but, notes not being recorded is something else. i'm not deep enough in midi to help you. untill someone can help you, you can just record from your drum machine as analog. going into the device setup and switching your driver to asio full duplex may solve your problem with both midi and analog recording latency.
