Forgive me if I have this in the wrong area, but how do I get around latency in Reason 3.0?

I have my MotifES7 integrated with the computer via my mLAN16e firewire expansion card, and I cannot seem to correct this latency issue. When I go to Reason's Edit>Preferences>Audio area the Buffer Slider is not available for movement. The up/down arrows for Output latency and Latency Compensation will allow for numerical changes, but no notice of changes in the latent sounds. Using the MME drivers as opposed to either of the ASIO drivers will make the situation a little better - but there is STILL latency. I know that I don't have nearly the best sound card in my computer (SoundBlasterLive), but shouldn't I be able to get 'spot-on' results with what I have (my computer is an HP Pavilion a620n - 2.20GHz/1Gig Ram unit).

from what i've gathered, it's all about your sound card, not how much ram you have

Yeah....I kind'a got to thinking that the soundcard just might be the greater factor within this. I just wanted to be certain of this before I went out to get another soundcard. 'can't swing it just yet, but I'm thinking that something in the $100-$150 price range should do much to dispel that latency issue.

Thanks.

Was there a disk that came with your Motif or the mLAN expansion card?

If so, have you installed the drivers on it? You need to disable the stock sound card and the SoundBlaster and be sure you see the option for the mLAN firewire in the Reason menu as well as in the control panel and the device manager.

If not, Google the Yamaha web site and you should find the driver files there.

yea it does have to do with your soundcard. I use to have issues with latency, then I got a firewire audio interface. and my latency issues are solve.
