I have an opportunity to get a very good laptop through work. Might as well record on it, no? Any recommendations for a sound card and mic interfaces? Acoustic guitar and vocals for a start. I hope to build from there.

laptop, huh.

There are a couple ways to go. Most of them expensive.

RME has a PCMCIA form factor but methinks it's expensive.

There are also some usb or firewire consoles that would work with your laptop. MOTU uses firewire I believe, so that would be
another one to check out.

also, probably expensive. I think Tascam has a USB connectivity one that might be cheaper than either of these. don't have a link for that one, though.

good luck,

miles

Thanks, I was looking at the M-Audio Duo. Anyone have an opinion of the quality?

I would stay away from USB unless it's one of those fancy 2.0s or the price is good enough to experiment.
