hi, im new here, etc etc

basically im going to purchase a laptop.. but i need a good soundcard?

help!

i dont know where to look..

i was going to get an alienware laptop (the extreme one) but i have it on good authority (read it on this site :P) that the soundcard u get with it is crap (audigy nx2 or sumthing)

so where do i go and what do i do?

ideally id like to still get the alienware extreme with an m-box but the price is gonna be a little too steep..

i was looking to spend around £2500

and wanted 160gig hard drive
cd-rw
1 gig ram
an internal (preferably) soundcard with line in/out and midi

can anyone suggest where to look for a laptop (other than alienware) where i might find a laptop that meets my requirements.. any help would be much appreciated!

thanks

I looked and looked and looked and looked, and basically the fact is:
You will NOT find a laptop with a good built-in sound card. Period.

I've got a HP 7140, great speakers for a laptop, but the sound card is still crap. Basically, your only choice is to get an external (or PCMCIA) card. I'm not too keen an all the great laptop ones out there, but I'm sure some of the other members on here will be happy to suggest one for you.

PS I've heard the speakers/sound card on the Alienwares, and they're just plain crappy. Definately not worth the price.

Oh, and another thing, I wouldn't suggest looking for an internal 160 gig HD for your laptop. They're very hard to find and when you do find them, they're very expensive. I think Dell and HP let you customize to have two separate 80 gigs, but that's still a ton of money and IMO definately not worth it. Get an external for less than half of the price (you can get 120 gig external for around 100 bucks).
