I posted this in the cave but, I thought you all would like it....a 30 year old piece of rock maple, fret board from an old yamaha fg110, fret inlay is dyed ash( red, white, blue ) bound in bambo( skewers )...not happy with the color...gonna re-finish in clear.

It wasn't maple, it was rock maple.

Sweet looking lap steel, did you just use an old guitar neck for it? I don't completely understand scale length and stuff like that, I wanted to make an experimental lap steel but I was going to use and old squier neck bolted onto some ash I had laying around but it sounds disastrous for intonation.

just use the original scale length...roughly nut to 12th fret, 12th fret to bridge....this is just a rough measurement though.

should work for a lap steel. since you're not pressing down the string to fret it.

very cool lapsteel btw !!!

it may look like something relatively simple to build but it's in the limitations one sees the hand of the master and you've done an awesome job.

respect.

Looks like it'll turn out nicely-is it going to have a humbucker in there or is that routed for a P-90? And the string thru body should also work well for it.

Its routed for a humbucker that came out of my ibanez...I can split the coils and wire it like a tele....also there will be a phasing switch.

Hey jpw - that lap steel looks very cool...... looks like a fun project too.... :D

Its been a lot of fun....that 30 year old wood did manage burn up a few blades on the band saw though.
