KX88 sustain pedal problem

I just bought a KX88 because the action was so awesome, brought it home and find that I can't get the sustain pedal to work. I have the midi OUT going into a Casio CTK-571 midi IN. I am using a VFP1 footpedal which has the switch underneath to select normally-open or normally-closed. I have downloaded the KX88 manual and it says after reset that FS1 should be a sustain switch. I have tried many combinations of NO/NC footpedal switch, power-cycling the KX88 with footpedal attached or not, etc. No sustain! But when I plug into FC2 with the power on, the KX88 is in Sustain all the time, regardless of footpedal position. Under some situations, I get no sound unless I plug only part way into FC2, making me think the jacks are just all corroded or damaged. Is this a settings problem, or do I need to get a screwdriver??? Please help, otherwise the wonderful action may have to get returned to the store and I'm back to my springy little Casio keyboard again.

Have you tried a different foot pedal? There could be something wrong with the pedal, and you need to eliminate that possibility.

Also try a different midi cable from the KX88 to the Casio.

Have you done an actual hard reset of the KX88, or just cycled the power?

If you are worried about a bad connection you could try spraying deoxit on the 1/4" pedal jack and work it in and out of the FS1 jack.

KX88 Breath jack work-around for Sustain problem

Thanks so much for helping! I came up with a good work-around. I reassigned the "Breath" jack to be midi18, so it became a Sustain jack. I built an adapter to stereo 1/8 and plugged the footpedal in and it works!

Yes, I had really done a hard reset (A+B+PWRon) several times & it didn't help. I hope it is prossibly a really bad 1/4 inch jack. It may be a worse brain problem, though, because right after a hard reset, if I plug a non-connected 1/4 plug into FC2 (or maybe FC1?) it would put the keyboard into permanent "sustain" mode that wouldn't go away until I did a power cycle. I can't quite see how that could be caused by a bad jack, you know ?

I'm happily keeping the keyboard now, because the breath jack trick worked at least. I'm just hoping there's no brain problem down the road (in which case I'll be back with a new question). Thanks again.
