Hey all,

I am buying monitors this week for my studio and have been contemplating between the Wharfedale 8.2a's and the KRK RP6's. After calling GC and asking to hear the KRK RP6's they only have the RP5's and the RP8's. he said he would let me have the KRK RP8's for the same price as the KRK6's that I was initially interested in ($199/ea)

2 questions.

1) Since its the same company will the RP6's and RP8's be the same design with just a bigger sub? If so does that mean the 8's are a better deal for me since its the same price?

2) My room will either be 6.5' x 6.5' (if I stay in the walk-in), or 10' x 13' (if I expand to the office space). In either situation being that they are both kind of small rooms, is there any advantage over the other in having the smaller subs (RP6's) instead of the larger RP8's?

Also, if you had to pick between the Wharfedales and the KRK RP8 for my personal situation, what would be the choice (if they were the same price)...

Thanks again for all of your advice...

I have the RP8's and really like them. Thats a pretty good hook up on the price too, I got mine just a bit cheaper, but that was from a friend who works at GC, so you won't get them much cheaper than that. That 6x6 room might be a bit small for the speakers, but with some room treatment I'm sure it would be fine. From what I could tell the rp8s just have a bit better bass response than the smaller versions.

I couldn't compare the rp8s to the wharfdales though as I've never heard those.

Thanks for the reply man!

Yea, I am expanding to the office space as well so I will have the closet plus a 10' x 13' room as well. I am told the bigger room would be better for mixing and the closet better for tracking but I am not sure I understand why yet if both rooms are treated.

Thanks again.

I have the RP8s and am very pleased with them, although I have no basis for comparing them to the Wharfdales. The RP8s are fairly large and heavy, so make sure you have room for them on your desk; they also play very loudly, and have more bass extension than the RP6s, which is why I opted for them over the 6s. You're being quoted a very good price compared to the standard $250/ea at the usual internet vendors.

I would get the KRK RP8 over the Wharfeshits any day.
Still asian crap, of course, but "better" crap :)
