I am almost settled on the rp-5 but wanted to throw this question out there for feedback.

Will going up 1" in woofer size and 25watts in power from the rp-5 to the rp-6 really make that much of a difference? Will the added bass actually be harmful to my mix in terms of translating?

Also, I know that the VII series are better than the rokits, but are the VII4s a better buy for a 11x11 home studio?? My main concern is the subwoofer. I will be recording rock mostly ( acoustic guitar, electric guitar, vocals, bass, drums, keys ) will this sized speaker be able to accurately reproduce the low end of the acoustic guitar and bass guitar and drums effectively or will they not be able to handle those frequencies in excess? I noticed that, while smaller in woofer size, the VII4s actually have 15 more watts than the rp-5s do.

I guess the main question should be....rp-6 or vII4 since they are both the same price. but also include for cost benefits, the rp-5

Thanks guys.

noone wants to take a stab at this?? I have heard several people say that the vII4s are very good for their size, I just worry that because of their size, I am going to be losing certain parts of the audio spectrum.

Bass response can be more a matter of cabinet size than driver size, from what I've read, though driver size comes into the equation, as does porting.

the V4s are probably very honest and detailed speakers, but you'd need something else to check bass response on.

One option might be to get the v4s and then upgrade later with a sub when you have more dosh.

A lot of people on here vote for the rp6, and if you're going V series, then the v6 seems to be the favorite on here, even above the v8.

anyone else wanna weigh in on this?? Any preferences or experience with these models?

RP-5's

I got the RP-5's at a local megastore recently with a free Auralex D36 kit. They cost around $300 and I haven't been unhappy. They don't get huge volume, and they don't have a really extended low end, but I was surprised at what they were capable of. The deal was through GuitarCenter, so if you call their customer service, or better yet go to a GuitarCenter, and tell them you saw this deal in a recent mailer, maybe they'll hook you up. ($140 in free treatment ain't bad)
