As the OP said he tried it with the speakers unconnected, I assume he means the speaker volumes.

No, no hiss from my M Audios!
 
That's about the same boat I'm in.
I never noticed it until I was reaching behind the speaker for something and my ear was inches away.

Also checked with nothing plugged in, changing gain on the KRK's resulted in very slight difference in noise level. Almost none, but a little bit.
