I use KRK V88's a LOT these days.
Any monitor, as long as you know what they are telling you, is good.

If you get somehing with decent freq response, and by a decent manufacturer, you can mix on them.

Get the ones you like.

probably one of the best posts ever made on this board

I have a pair of the V4's version 2 and I love them. I use them as a small pair to my Mackie HR824's. I tend to spend most of my time listening on the KRK's.

Well, he has worked with Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Sparklehorse, Unsane and Frank Black you know...

i listened to a couple sets of KRK's..the V8 and RP8, they handled loud volumes very well.. and the guys testing them out were cranking the volume waaay louder than i ever use it. geeez!! no distortion tho,
....how much power do you need...100db or 50db?
sooo many choices...just within KRK!
i've read around and don't hear any quality issues, that i recall.

krk

i have the krk v6 and i love them, i got each one for 200 they were on the floor at guitar center im thinking of geting a sub and 2 more v6 for 5.1

How would you describe differences between RP and V Series ?

Did someone compare both side by side ???

Do Dmitri Shostakovitch use them too :D

good night ( i am in germany ).

I have the KRK Rockit 5 monitors and they give me an accurate sound. I just wish my control room was treated. :(

I think Shostakovitch used the Dynaudio AIR15s actually. :D

I currently use KRK 7000B passive monitors with an old technics integrated amp.

I used to have M-audio BX8s, and although I like the BX8s, my KRKs are clearly in another league - much less ear fatigue, less boomy bass, way better detail in the high end.

To me the whole V series has a smoother top end, punchier lows and richer mids than the RP's. All around a better speaker that leaves less fatigue. Of course they are made by the same company and cost more so you would imagine they would have a better sound. I actually like those V88's as well, but prefer to use them from about 8 feet away or more (more of a mid/far field). They sound pretty nice to me once you get them up to a certain level. Thats one of the things I love about my Dynaudio's. They stay pretty even all the way across the board concerning volume. The KRK Expose series are wonderful monitors and are often overlooked. The "E" series is definately a step up over the "v" series in my opinion, but once again, so is the price.

I believe what Joel said about learning your monitors. Thats how so many people out there can do great mixes on ns-10's. I do also believe though that you should strive to get the best monitors you can and learn those. I just don't want to see people use Joel's post as an excuse to just go get cheap monitors instead. I believe in getting the best stuff that you can and then learning how to fully utilize that to your advantage.

.

i noticed that too about the DYNBM5A this past weekend at GC, they really did seem to maintain the same sound from quiet to loud, tho they didn't go very loud in comparison to the RP8's 824 V8...but the led started blinking yellow.then red..to let the user know.

i really liked the sound of the DYN audio, its so fhkng subjective...to each their own.

most times i think a monkey could mix better than me.... i always notice I have no consistency..one mix is ok, next 5 suck....

then i notice, damn I've been chaning my room around, move the desk around, changeout speakers, make speaker stands, take them back off the speaker stands...put foam under them, remove the foam from under them...
set the amp at full and use the preamp, then set the amp at 12oclock....
constant tweeking and it really goes nowhere...like my posts!

I owned krk v8's

I used to own a pair of v8's and recently upgraded to the event asp8's and would never go back. The v8s have a somewhat brittle high and an overephasized midrange. They also really drop off at about 45 or 50 Hz. Mix things on em and your mixes will tend to not sound exactly the way you intended. They also are not a very detailed monitor. I noticed that they tend to muttle things up a bit. This is my personal opinion, although once you get to know them, you can do a great mix on them. I have just finally experienced what it is like to mix something on a pair of monitors and have it sound EXACTLY how I intended. Check out the event asp6's or asp8's. They are the most amazing speakers in their pricerange. Super loud, flat and amazingliy accurate low,mid and high end. Really low ear fatigue as well which is was problem for me with the v8's. Just remember this is only my personal opinion

That is totally true!
You need to get something that is at least letting you hear what you tracked, with as small a set of "lies" as possible. When you know what these "lies" are, in your mix room in particular, you can really get on with the mixing....
